The reason he returned to the manor was to tell her everything. He could not marry the woman she picked for him like his brothers did.

He had someone else he wanted to pursue.

After Dylan spoke, Grandma May sighed. She said, "You have a point. It's better to end things earlier. Ms. Doyle's feelings for you shouldn't be that deep yet. You should talk to her and make her give up. It's better that way.

"Don't hold her back."

After a pause, she continued, "Are you really not going to consider Ms. Doyle anymore? You don't believe in my choice?"

Dylan said, "I trust your eye for people, Nana. Ms. Doyle is great, but I don't have romantic feelings for her. Even if I do marry her, we'll only be husband and wife who respect one another without any love between us.

“She's smart. She definitely doesn't want a future like that either.

"Love can't be forced, Nana. There's no other way to describe it."

Grandma May agreed. "Okay. Since you say so, I won't interfere with your relationship anymore. You can do whatever you want and pursue whoever you want. However, I must stress that the girl you marry must be of good character.

"Even if she isn't that good, she can't be too bad. She must be at least passable. Don't ruin the York family's reputation. If you insist on marrying a girl with bad character, I won't stop you, but I'll break off all ties with you and kick you out of the family. You won't be a York anymore."

Grandma May would never allow a bad apple into the family.

The family's reputation was built by generations, as well as her and her husband's efforts.

She could not let Dylan ruin it.

Dylan looked serious. He promised, "I know, Nana. If that girl doesn't have a decent character, I won't marry her even though I love her. I'm aware how important it is to marry a good wife."

"Good. Since Ms. Doyle is in Wiltspoon, you can talk it out with her.

"I'm old. I can't meddle in too many things. It's important that you don't regret this decision in the future.

"If you do regret and realize that Ms. Doyle suits you better, don't come asking for our help when you want to pursue her again.

"Don't disturb Zachary and Serenity as well. Serenity is pregnant and goes to work every day. She has enough on her plate and doesn't have time to sort out your relationship problems."

Dylan said, "Why do you keep saying that I might regret it in the future, Nana? I'm confident that I don't love Imogen Doyle. I won't regret this. I had never regretted anything I did."

Grandma May laughed. "That's good.

"Give me my drumstick."

Dylan passed it to Grandma May.

She ate it elegantly while looking into the distance.

“I'll sit here for a while. You can return to the manor and stay for a meal. I told your mom you're back. She's waiting to eat together with you. After that, look for Ms. Doyle as soon as possible and tell her the truth. Explain things so that she gives up on you.

"Nevertheless, Ms. Doyle came to Wiltspoon because of you. She's our guest. You should give her some local specialties as souvenirs. It serves as an apology for breaking her heart as well."

Dylan said, "Will she accept the gifts after getting mad at me for rejecting her, Nana?

"You can buy the gifts and hand them to Serenity. She can pass it on to Imogen. Serenity will definitely prepare souvenirs for Imogen to take back with her. Tell Serenity that she doesn't have to spend her money. You should buy the gifts and give them to Imogen through Serenity. She'll accept them."

Dylan agreed with the plan, but would that count as an apology?
