Chapter 1292
Willy's gaze laced with malice, hearing the exact words again. Clearly, Yvette's attention was different from his, but it also outlined the authenticity of the issue.
Yeah, how could a three-year-old lie when she even had a hard time expressing herself sometimes?!
Willy's heart burned with anger as he looked at his naive, innocent daughter, whose eyes were misty and puffy. He didn't dare imagine how things would be like now if Lauren didn't catch her in time or if Lauren suffered an even more severe injury.
Even his insides trembled as he held Yvette tightly in his arms. He had been too careless. He couldn't believe he didn't notice someone wanted to harm his wife and daughter!
Who in hell?
Who could Lauren and Yvette's existence threaten? Kayden?
But barely anyone knew much about Yvette! Even if Kayden knew of Yvette and Lauren's existence, he couldn't have possibly linked two completely different identities together, could he? Plus, Lauren was a Luther; who in the world had the balls to harm her and Yvette so openly?
Willy's mind was in a mess, and his pain was even more indescribable.
Setting Yvette down on his lap, Willy looked at Lauren, who still had her eyes closed, and patted his daughter lightly. "Okay, you're a good girl, Yvette. Mommy and Daddy love you the most; we will never ignore or leave you! Why don't you close your eyes and sleep with Mommy for now? I'll watch over you guys. I'll wake you up as soon as Mommy does. Mommy's injured; she needs to rest. Let's not disturb her. Well wait for her to wake up after she's had enough rest, okay?"
"Okay..."
Willy spoke and even walked around with her in his arms, coaxing her to take a nap. Just as he put her down on his bed and wanted to call for a doctor to check on Lauren, the doctor making rounds came in.
"Doctor, my wife's doing okay, right? Why hasn't she woken up yet?"
The doctor finally looked over at Willy after he was done writing the records and instructing the nurse.
"Don't worry, Mr. Bowles! The patient's wound is slightly inflamed from infection, leading her temperature to be a little high, causing her to be lethargic! I've already added a fever and antiinflammatory shot to her medication. She'll wake up soon! It's best to let her rest as much as possible; try not to disturb her. Also, make sure not to move her right arm. Bones take a long time to recover; don't rush it. Remember to come back for follow-ups. "Okay, thank you, Doctor!"
Worried about Lauren and Yvette, coupled with the pressing matter on hand, Willy hurriedly texted Lexx after seeing the doctor away.
He stayed in the hospital that day, comforting Yvette as he kept an eye on Lauren, who had finally woken up in the afternoon. But before she could even say a word, Yvette bawled again as she tugged on the bedsheet.
"Mommy... Mommy..."
"I'm sorry. I won't be playful anymore! Don't ignore me, Mommy..."
Willy grabbed her hands, stopping her from climbing. "Yvette, listen to Daddy. Don't touch Mommy, okay? She'll be in pain..."
With that, he carried her up to the bed and held her tiny body as he gave her Lauren's left hand to hold. Lauren smiled at her, couldn't help getting teary-eyed.
"Willy... Hmm... Yvette..."
Seeing the two she was most concerned about standing safely in front of her right as she opened her eyes, clearly sensing the brightness and air, the pain in her body no longer mattered to her. But even then, she had exhausted all her strength when she spoke.
"Keep an eye on her. Don't... don't let her go anywhere dangerous!"
Willy nodded as he placed his hand over hers, his emotions surging again.
"Don't worry about Yvette. I've already taken her to the pediatrician. There wasn't even a scratch on her. I'll take good care of her. You have to get better soon, Laurie! Yvette and I can't live without you!"
Willy bowed his head as he held her hand up and kissed it deeply. He must make Lauren and Yvette move into his house after she could be discharged! He had to make sure they'd be away from harm's way!
"Okay..."
Closing her eyes, her tense body relaxed a lot.
"Mommy, Mommy..."
"It's okay, Yvette, Don't cry. Listen to Daddy, okay?" Holding her hand, Lauren wanted to get up to wipe her tears away, but right as she moved, her back burned, and she laid back down helplessly, grunting.
Hmm..."
"Don't move!"
Willy hurriedly brought Yvette down from the bed, then pressed her body. "You've got quite a few bad scratches; don't move, or you'll pull on the wound. You also need to be good and rest well. Don't bother about anything; you'll recover real soon!"
"Mommy, be good and sleep. I'll be quiet. I'll listen to Daddy. Sleep, Mommy!"
A rare apprehension arose beneath her eyes as she looked at her sensible, well-behaved daughter, understanding her fear and
helplessness. Lightheaded, her
thoughts clearly drifting away Lauren no longer forced herself but shut her eyes and fell back asleep.
For the next two days, Willy basically lived in the hospital. As Yvette had recovered, he brought her to the kindergarten as usual, then got his work done in the hospital.
That day, his phone vibrated after he finished the work on his hands, and he checked the incoming email, which contained all the investigation materials from that day.
Carefully looking through all of them, even watching the footage a few times, Willy hit his head, locking his brows into a tight furrow.
It really was a clown!
Judging from the footage and
screenshots, this person was
probably familiar with the hospital. He never stuck his head out for long every time, and he must've
deliberately kept his head lonoveldrama
to
avoid the surveillance camera, which only captured his colorful afro wig.
Yvette didn't lie!
She must've been describing the color of his shirt and hair!
But who in the world could've done it?
Why would they want to give a child a hard time?
What was more, all the surveillance cameras only managed to capture was the clown poking his head out again and again, imprable from the beginning to the end. Such an eye-catching target, yet they couldn't even find where he went?!
It was all too strange!
No way he had superpowers, right? This was definitely no coincidence, or why would there only be this?
But no matter how many times he watched, he couldn't make a breakthrough.
Right as he was getting desperate, a slight rustling noise came from the bed, and he reflexively closed his mailbox.
"You're up."
With that, he got up and helped Lauren out of bed, then draped a shirt over her shoulders.
"What do you want to do? I'll help you! Don't be like Yvette... You'll suffer in the future if your bones don't heal properly!"
What do you think?
