Warrior 239
THEON
We were just a company of five Miro, Dominic, El, Diana and myself standing in the Central, which we all collectively named Rogueland.
We arrived at dawn and the moment we went past the “DANGERS DO NOT CROW” sign on the border next to the five lifeless and rottening bodies hanging by ropes around their necks, I immediately felt eyes on me.
Covering my nose, I stayed on alert. My eyes roamed everywhere and the way the others looked around, I could tell they felt the same way, too.
“We’re being watched.” Miro whispered as we emerged in a vast land surrounded by hills,
Everywhere was quiet so quiet that not even a bird chirped.
Yet, I could feel a mixture of heat and goosebumps from the roots of my hair to the soles of my combat boots.
Dominic, who was in our midst, stepped forward, holding his fisted hand up to signal us to stop. We obeyed, and then he went further, giving us some space. After looking around at the valley, he took a deep breath and raised his voice.
“My name is Dominic Tarrent!” His voice echoed across the space. “Alpha King of the North. I would like to speak to your leader. There’s something I need from him.”
For a brief second, silence prevailed and then, out of nowhere, a long spear came out,
heading straight for Dominic’s heart at lightning speed. My fingers twitched with panic, but to my surprise, Dominic stepped to the side by just a fraction and caught the spear effortlessly. He flipped the spear in his hand before throwing it on the ground in front of him. “I just want to talk!” He bellowed and to my utter dismay, a cloud of arrows darkened the sky before lunging for us.
“Oh, crap!” Miro muttered, sharing a glance with Dominic.
“Now!” Dominic ordered, and we all stepped to his side, took a deep breath, channeled our wolves, and let out the biggest roar of our lives.
A roar so loud, every arrow back flipped out of our presence and even the hills trembled.
Silence settled again – this time it was different. It was not as menacing as before, this time I could smell the fear in the air like rottening leaves.
“I am a patient man.” Dominic didn’t yell this time. “But I am also known to have a short fuse. If your leader does not show his face in the next ten seconds, I will have my mutant army here in five minutes and they will not stop until your wives and children are food and your bodies become one with the earth. Try me.” noveldrama
I expected a barrage of attacks; instead, I spotted some heads peeking out of holes in the hills and shortly after some raggedy hungry looking and badly smelling wolves came out of hiding.
About a dozen of them approached us, their yellow eyes hostile as they sized us up. The biggest among them came forward, his teeth bared.
“What….do…you….want…..Tarrent?!”
Miro and I shared a glance. It wasn’t unusual for a Lycan to speak in his wolf, but it was highly unheard of for a common wolf to speak.
“I know you are under the payroll of the Blackwells,” Dominic began, “but I have an offer that is highly irresistible.”
The leader snarled. “What makes…you… think…I want anything to do with you?
“Because I have something you desperately want?”
“And….what’s….thattttt?”
“Freedom. Instead of depending on the scraps the Blackwells give you, the Central can become a kingdom of its own. I can help you. I have never opened my borders for inter–kingdom trading, but for you, I am willing to do so and I give you six months‘ worth of supplies in food, water and building materials.”
The wolves looked at themselves and I noticed about a hundred more came out of hiding, watching us from their hideouts.
“Why….do……you…..want….to….help….ussssss?”
“Because I want something from you.” Dominic folded his arms behind him. “The Blackwells took my niece. I want her back and I need access to your cave mines.”
The Big Wolf’s eyes scanned us warily and suddenly, he shifted, standing before us as a naked, severely malnourished bearded man.
I averted my gaze,
“They told us you’d come.” He said.
“I know.” Dominic replied. “I know we could be walking into a possible trap.”
“Yet, you came.”
Dominic’s lips tilted at the corners.
“You’re desperate.” The bearded man continued.
“Yes, I am.” Dominic’s faint smirk faded. “And you don’t want to know what that feels like. So you have a choice obey the Blackwells, and continue to live for generations in abject poverty, or you let us through and I will do as I promised
One of his wolves whimpered, stepping forward, but the bearded man snarled at him, making it jump back in fright.
He faced us again. “How do I know you’ll keep your word?”
“I can sign a contract or whatever it is to show my loyalty, but this stands only if I get to see my niece alive. So time is of the essence.”
“We make a blood oath then.” The man suggested and Dominic sized him up from head to toe, the corner of his lips turned down in disgust. “What? Can’t live up to your word?”
“That’s not what bothers me. I just wonder if it’s sanitary. Plus, you have to wear clothes.”
The leader grinned, displaying blackened teeth, but ordered someone to bring him clothes, nonetheless. Shortly after that, both men gripped each other’s forearm and sank their claws in, drawing blood and right before us as witnesses, they made a blood oath.
“I will do you one solid.” The leader of the rogues said as he led us to the mouth of the underground cave mines. A wolf brought something in its snout, which he retrieved and handed to Dominic. “Here is a map of exactly where they’re holding
her.”
Dominic nodded and turned to leave, only to be held by the elbow by the Rogue Alpha. There was something in his eyes that resembled fear. “I hope you find them alive.”
My brows furrowed, the same as everyone else. “We are only going to save Ryn. Who’s them?”

The Rogue Alpha turned to me, then he took a whiff and his nostrils flared. “They smell like you?
“What are you talking about, old man?” Miro stepped forward. “Or rather, who are you talking about?”
Then it dawned on me and I think at that moment, my knees went weak.
“Oh, my Goddess!” Diana covered her mouth in shock. “Ryn is pregnant!”
What do you think?
