Rosella put the velvet box down. "I didn't know he was coming back by himself. Mom told me he would be back for lunch. Since Ms. Doyle is in Wiltspoon, I thought he'd let us meet her after eating and drinking with her last night."

She no longer felt happy about the jewelry Dylan gave her.

She preferred having a daughter-in-law.

Dylan said, "I'll just go back to work now."

After speaking, he got up and was about to leave.

Martin said, "Your mom told the kitchen to prepare extra food. We can't finish it even if we feed it to the dogs. You should eat before leaving." Dylan was rendered speechless.

His father just implied that they would not have asked him to stay for lunch if their dog could finish the extra food.

Just because he did not bring his girlfriend home, he now stood lower than the family dog.

"Okay. Let's go and eat," Rosella said.

Dylan stood and followed his mother. He said, "I thought you really wouldn't let me eat. I guess I'm less important than our dog now."

"We'll let it slide this time. You must bring Ms. Doyle back for a meal and let us meet her during her next visit, lest we can't recognize her when we see her."

"I don't love Ms. Doyle, Mom."

Rosella glared at him. "You don't like the person Nana chose for you? If you don't, what have you been doing for the past few months? Even Camryn fell in love with Callum after he pursued her for two or three months."

Camryn rejected Callum at first because she was blind. She thought she was not good enough for him and kept saying no. Even so, she was already in love with him.

Dylan sat at the dining table. "I'm different from Callum. Besides, he didn't manage to win Camryn's heart in three months."

Rosella sat as well. "Is Ms. Doyle not good? That's impossible. I don't think Nana's choice will be that bad. You shouldn't be too picky. You're not that excellent either. You're neither the best nor the worst among your brothers. You're average.

"So don't be too picky and trust your nana."

Dylan said resignedly, "Mom, love is complicated. My feelings for her have nothing to do with her qualities. No matter how great she is, I'll never have feelings for her.

"Nana said she'd leave me to make my own choices as long as you all are satisfied with the partner I choose. I have a good eye for people too, Mom. Don't worry. I'll bring you a second daughter-in-law home early next year.

"If things proceed smoothly, I can bring her back to meet you and Dad next summer."

Dylan thought he was outstanding and that only a few could surpass him.

Although he and Chameleon Fox did not have a good impression of each other during their first meeting, they got along well afterward. He was confident he could win her heart.

After glaring at Dylan, Rosella sighed. "If your nana is leaving you alone, I don't think even Martin and I can influence you now. You can do whatever you want. After all, you'll be the one spending your future with your wife. She has to be someone you love. A marriage without love is difficult to maintain.

"What did your nana say when you told her you don't want to be with Ms. Doyle?"

Rosella thought the old lady was too easygoing about this, unfitting of her character.
