Chapter 206 Playing the Game

Eric and I sat next to each other. Soon, the auction began.

Elise walked gracefully onto the stage, wearing a gilded gown.

As the opening remarks concluded, she auctioned off one item after another. I wasn't particularly interested in the first few items as they were just some artistic trinkets.

Before long, a pair of emerald bangles appeared in front of me. Elise's voice rang out clearly. "These emerald bangles were crafted by the renowned gem expert, Mr. Walker Senior. They're completely flawless, with a rich green hue throughout. "The starting bid is a million dollars."

I raised my paddle without hesitation. "I call for 1.3 million dollars."

These bangles were of high quality, and compared to the previous items, they were on a completely different level.

Of course, the other attendees were also eyeing them. Soon, the bid was at two million dollars.

I stopped bidding. These bangles weren't worth two million dollars to me, and if someone else wanted them, I was willing to let them have them.

"2.2 million dollars."

Just as I was preparing for the next item, Eric's voice suddenly sounded beside me. I glanced at him in surprise.

Before I could say anything, another familiar voice came from across the room. "2.5 million dollars."

I turned to find Jeremiah, his eyes full of challenge. Elsa sat beside him, her eyes filled with jealousy.

Eric quickly realized that Jeremiah was trying to outbid him for the bangles. He smirked and raised his paddle again. "2.8 million dollars."

Jeremiah was not backing down. "Three million dollars."

The price of the bangles was now far exceeding expectations. Some of the other guests began exchanging curious glances.

I shook my head slightly at Eric, signaling for him to stop this petty competition.

Eric smirked and whispered to me, "Don't worry, I know what you mean. Since he likes these so much, I'll make sure they're worth more than they're worth."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Eric raised his paddle again. "3.5 million dollars."

Even though the auction hall was filled with prominent figures from the business world, everyone couldn't help but gasp in shock.

After all, the value of these bangles was clear. Paying three million dollars for them would definitely be a foolish move.

However, Eric didn't care about the eyes of those around him. He turned, locked

eyes with Jeremiah, and smirked challengingly.

Instantly, Jeremiah's competitive

spirit was ignited. Without

hesitation, he raised his paddle while

ignoring Elsa's attempts to stop him and shouted, "Four million dollars."

At that moment, a smug grin appeared on Eric's face, and he lowered his paddle.

Without speaking, he silently mouthed, "Congratulations."

I instantly understood and followed his gaze.

Sure enough, as soon as Jeremiah read Eric's lips, his face flushed with anger. It was clear now that he had been played.

Elise had no idea about the tension behind the scenes. She was still happily celebrating the fact that the bangles sold for such a high price.

"Four million dollars, going once. Four million dollars, going twice. Four million dollars, going three times. Sold! Mr. Cornell, this pair of bangles is yours. Congratulations on winning your desired item!

As the applause filled the room, the bangles were placed in a wooden box and handed over to Jeremiah. He accepted them stiffly, but there was no smile on his face.

For the next few items, Jeremiah didn't get involved, and Eric and I managed to win them at reasonable prices.

After the auction ended, everyone headed to the banquet hall for dinner. Since the organizers were unaware of Eric and my identities, we were seated at different tables. noveldrama

To my surprise, Jeremiah was seated at the same table as me.
