Chapter 169 Tarnishing the Brown Family's Reputation

I smiled and sat next to Eric. "A marriage certificate isn't going to stop Elsa. Otherwise, Jeremiah wouldn't have been wrapped around her finger."

Eric nodded. "It's a good thing you came when you did. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to fight her off with my current condition. If she had thrown herself on me while I was on the bed, my innocence would've been taken away."

He showed me his signature pitiful face as he spoke. If someone else saw him now, they would have a hard time imagining him chasing Elsa away earlier.

Before we could catch a break, the door swung open and slammed the wall. Jack stood at the door, fuming.

I turned around and met Eric's gaze, only to see a hint of playfulness in his eyes. I felt so helpless that I sighed.

What was going on today? Was I destined to argue with people no matter what I did?

Jack didn't have to speak up for me to know that Elsa must've aired her grievances and made some false accusations.noveldrama

"What did Elsa tell you this time?" I didn't even move as I asked leisurely.

Jack walked over in a huff. His voice was cold and hard as he said, "She didn't have to tell me anything. She intended to come up here to check on you, and I didn't follow her because I couldn't be bothered to argue with you.

"Imagine my surprise when she came down in tears in less than ten minutes. She didn't respond to anything I asked. All she did was shake her head. You guys must've picked on her!"

I chuckled coldly. "Can't it be that she's crying out of shame and regret because her obscene thoughts were exposed? Why don't you ask your precious sister what she did here?"

I raised my head and looked at Jack, feeling puzzled. He looked like a smart man. So, why was it that Elsa managed to play him like an imbecile?

My gaze probably ticked Jack off. He glared at me and raised his voice. "What could she have done to you two? She's here because she cares about you. Haven't you always been at odds with her?"

Jack glanced at Eric and said

disdainfully, you think you can act this arrogantly because you've found yourself strong backing in the Flint family, think again. You'll always be a part of the Brown family, no matter what happens. Know your place! More to the point..."

Jack scoffed before adding, "You've got the worst reputation. Do you think the Flints would want you as a part of their family just because you want to marry him?"

Something popped into my mind when I heard what he said—one should never argue with imbeciles.

Jack was obsessed with Elsa now. Love had made him irrational, and he didn't have much good sense to begin with.

Before I could respond to him, Eric spoke up. "Why does Jae need someone else's permission to marry into the Flint family? My family will welcome her with an abundance of joy and merry as long as I want to marry her. Do you have something tosay about that? She has what it takes to act arrogantly."

Eric rested his hand on mine. He might've sounded a little weak because of his condition, but he was still very intimidating.

Jack's expression froze, and a hint of frustration flashed in his eyes. However, the fact remained that Eric was far superior when it came to business skills. Some of the projects Jack was handling were in collaboration with Flint Group. Without those collaborations, he would have nothing to compete with me. That was why Jack didn't dare to confront Eric. All he could do was look at me and change the topic. "What about the family? Did you tell anyone in the family about your intention to get married?"

A hint of disdain flashed in Jack's

eyes when he noticed that I was silent. "If you ask me, you just don't have the courage to bring it up to them. You plan to remarry immediately after the divorce. It's like you have no qualms about dragging the family's reputation through the mud. I'd love to see how

you explain yourself to Mom and

Dad."

I sneered and raised my gaze when I heard what he said. "It looks like you genuinely don't understand Mom and Dad at all. Simmer down. Once Eric has healed up completely, I'll take him home."
