Chapter 168 Finding Herself Another Target

I immediately stopped dead in my tracks. Then, I turned around and returned before stopping at the ward's door. It was left ajar, and I saw through the crack in the door that the figure was Elsa.

Eric was sleeping and didn't seem to sense her presence. He didn't open his eyes until she was standing in front of his bed. He immediately frowned when he saw her.

"What are you doing here?"

Elsa leaned over coquettishly and said, "I saw your chest bleeding that day. So, I swung by to check on you. Is this how Jane has been taking care of you? Has she always left you alone?"

He sat upright and scoffed, saying, "Who are you to judge how she looks after me? Who do you think you are?"

Elsa saw how cold and aloof he was, and she hurriedly waved and adopted a pitiful expression. "I don't have any ill intentions. It's just that Jane must be quite tired from looking after you. She has lived a sheltered life. She doesn't know a thing about looking after someone. How about I look after you from here on out? I'll do a better job than her."

Elsa's voice sounded very sweet, but Eric was completely unaffected. He slowly turned his head sideways and looked at her. Then, his lips curled into a grin, and his tone was cold when he spoke.

"Was this how you seduced Jeremiah? Good grief. You're so bad at it that I feel embarrassed for you. You should probably work on it. Jeremiah had to be blind or under some kind of spell to fall for such a crappy move. At first, I was a little peckish, but you disgust me so much that I've lost all my appetite."

Elsa's face immediately turned pale when she heard what Eric said. Tears welled up in her eyes, making her look all the more pitiful.

"How could you say that about me? Nothing impure is going on between me and Jeremiah. He's just a brother-in-law to me."

I saw how hypocritical Elsa was and opened the door. It wasn't so much that I was worried about Eric being seduced by her but rather that she was the kind of person who would do anything to get what she wanted.

Eric's health was still far from ideal now. I'd seriously have to off myself to show how sorry I was if he got hurt again.

Elsa wasn't the least bit panicked when she noticed me walking into the ward. "You're back, Jane. I hope you won't misunderstand. I'm just here to visit my future brother-in-law.

I don't have other intenovnoveldrama

I scoffed. "We all know if you have ulterior motives. You're an interesting person." I took a step forward and leaned close. "You seem to have a thing for brothers-in- law."

Elsa's expression immediately froze. "That's not true. I merely swung by to check on you two and see if you need my help."

She was staring at Eric as she spoke. "I did it out of the kindness of my heart."

I sneered and cut off her pretentious act. "I could care less about your kindness. We don't need it. Focus your attention on Jeremiah if you have the time and you might have a shot at becoming his wife.

Eric gave me a look of approval and nodded instinctively. His eyes were brimming with disgust when he turned and faced Elsa again. "Get

out now.

I can't stand the

hypocritical stench on you. You're making me sick."

Elsa's face turned red with both shame and anger when she heard what he said. She wiped her tears pitifully and shuffled out of the ward.

When she disappeared from sight, I walked over and closed the door.

Eric broke the silence first. "It looks like your so-called sister has found herself another target."

I felt speechless and said, "Well, you're more handsome and have a higher net worth than Jeremiah."

Eric chuckled and raised his head. "It looks like we'll have to get our marriage certificate as soon as possible."
