While Melissa hesitated, Miranda, her sister-in-law, had already picked up the phone. “What’s all the pretending for, Melissa? Rachel has already come home and told me everything that happened at the party, why is Sheril fighting with Rachel over anything?”.

Melissa didn’t have time to answer the guest. She said anxiously, “What is it, Miranda? I’m just asking for Tanya’s contact information.”

Miranda scoffed and said, “Her contact information? Do you even need it when she’s already in your house? You do that on purpose, don’t you? What’s the big deal? You just know Tanya, that’s all. Is that what made you so smug?

Know your place, Melissa, you’re no longer a Wood’s girl, you’re Mrs. Anderson now! Even if you have Tanya on your side, that will never change the social status of the Andersons and the Woods! Sheril better not fight with Rachel over every little thing. It’s more important that one knows one’s place.”

Miranda immediately hung up after fiercely ranting at her.

Melissa’s grip on her phone tightened, making her fingertips turn a little pale.

What did Miranda mean by ‘she’s already at your house’?

While she was stunned, Tanya approached her and said, “Hi, Auntie. Putting aside the incident, I should be the Tanya you’re looking for.”

“…”

Melissa gasped.

Tanya very kindly said, “I’m Nora’s friend, can I stay at your house temporarily while I’m back in the States?”

“… Sure.”

Melissa watched as the cheerful Tanya took Cherry’s hand and led her into the living room, feeling as if she were dreaming.

Had Tanya just said she was friends with Nora?

It seemed that none of Nora’s friends were simple people…..

Upstairs in the bedroom.

Tanya was playing with Cherry. She tossed her in the air before catching her again. Cherry was so excited she couldn’t stop giggling.

Beside them, Sheril watched in horror, dreadfully afraid that Tanya would miss and cause Cherry to fall.

After several rounds, an exhausted Tanya plopped down on the couch. She rubbed her aching arms and said, “It’s only been half a year since I’ve seen you, but why am I having trouble getting you up now?”

Cherry climbed onto the couch and massaged her shoulders with her small hands. “It must be because Madrina has gotten weaker and not because I’ve put on weight!”.

The corners of Tanya’s lips spasmed.

“They’re very noisy.” Nora, lying on the bed, tossed and turned repeatedly, unable to sleep. She buried her head with a pillow and said, “Can’t they play outside? I still have to send Cherry to the garden early tomorrow morning.”

At that time it was only 6 o’clock in the evening, while she only had to wake up at 7:40 in the morning….

However, they who knew her biological clock found nothing wrong with what she said.

Tanya even waved a big hello and said, “Now that I’m here, do you still think you won’t get enough sleep? I’ll take Cherry to the garden tomorrow morning.”

Then she went into the den and shut the door right away.

They were all speechless.

Sheril looked at Tanya warily. However, she saw no sign of anger on her face. Rather, there was a sort of…. Joy at being exploited?

Then, she saw Tanya hug Cherry and say very gently, “Cherry, do you want your Godmother to give you a bath? Let’s sleep together tonight.”

“Okie-Dokie!”

As Cherry blinked her big round eyes, she hugged Tanya by the neck and said, “Godmother, you have to take me out to the garden tomorrow, okie?”

“No problem!”

The Anderson residence was a villa with guest rooms, so they definitely wouldn’t let Tanya and Sheril squeeze into one room.

As Sheril led Tanya to the guest room, she asked, “Tanya, how did you meet Nora?”

How did she meet Nora?

The light in Tanya’s eyes dimmed a little. She lowered her head and looked softly at Cherry before slowly answering, “We met at a meeting.”

A meeting?

Sheril could clearly sense that she was in a bad mood, so, deep in thought, she didn’t ask further.

However, Tanya grabbed her arm and asked, “Sheril, are you thinking that Nora treats me too coldly and that’s why you’re afraid I’ll get angry?”

Seeing her thoughts exposed, Sheril was immediately quite embarrassed.

Whether at the dance party or in Nora’s room right now, there was no way anyone was going to say that Nora’s attitude toward Tanya had been warm or enthusiastic. Therefore, she was actually a little worried.

Suddenly, Tanya burst out laughing. She grabbed Cherry and pressed her cheek against hers. “Don’t worry, she’s really good to me! Look, she even gave me little Cherry!”

Then Tanya added, “Besides, you don’t have to worry. She and I are so close that we’re almost inseparable, because…. We used to be in the same boat.”

The word ‘mom’ made Tanya freeze.

Her eyes reddened and she hugged the soft and cuddly Cherry tightly. “Little Cherry, you really are Mommy’s precious baby!”

Then she walked into the guest room with Cherry.

The two played and had fun for quite a while. Before going to bed, Cherry suddenly sat up and said, “Wait a minute, Godmother, I almost forgot! My spark of friendship is going to go out.”

After saying that, she got off the bed, ran to Nora’s room and grabbed her cell phone. She was about to leave when she realized that no one was in bed and the lights in the den were still on.

Cherry slowed down and went back to the bedroom. She then logged on to Facebook and sent ‘Grandpa Ian’ a sticker wishing him goodnight.

Grandpa Ian also replied with a sticker wishing her good night.

Only then did Cherry calm down and hang up the cell phone with a smile.

When she looked back, she saw Tanya staring at her. “Cherry, fess up! Do you have a boyfriend?”

Cherry replied, “No, I don’t! It’s Grandpa! Sponsor Grandpa!”

“…”

The evening passed quietly.

Whenever Nora took Cherry to the garden, Cherry would basically wake up at 7:35 and get out of bed at 7:40. Then she would brush her teeth and leave the house with a baseball cap on without rinsing her face or combing her hair.

Unlike her, Tanya got up at six-thirty.

She put on her makeup slyly and even put on a pair of sunglasses before finally taking Cherry out into the garden with glee.

When they arrived at the school gates, Cherry happened to see Whitney and Sinead also entering as they got out of the car.

Whitney stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of her.

Sinead shouted, “A liar can’t come into the garden!”.

Whitney also said dispassionately, “Cheryl Smith, it is not good to lie. As punishment, you must stand at the garden gate and shout a hundred times ‘I was wrong. I will not lie again.’ You can only go in after you have reflected on your actions.”
