Celeste was impulsive by nature, never one to hide her thoughts. She had no idea that Rex was observing all her little expressions.

He let out a soft laugh and casually threw out a remark. "How do you think your dad managed to win the South City development project?"

Celeste froze, her mind racing.

Her dad had told her before that winning the bid wasn't just due to Charmaine's encouragement but also thanks to Rex, the big investor backing the project. That's why he was so eager to please Rex.

"Tsk. What kind of look is that? You think I'd set you up?" Rex shrugged. "It's simple. You and Charmaine are classmates. I want you to look out for her at school."

Celeste's wariness disappeared in an instant, and she burst into laughter. “You didn't even need to ask! Charmaine is my friend. I'd protect her with or without you telling me to."

Rex sipped his tea and leisurely added, "And one more thing-let me know who she spends time with, especially any guys."

That made Celeste freeze.

Rex looked completely unfazed, exuding a shameless, untouchable aura. "I've made my offer. If you agree, we'll work together, and I'll pretend none of this ever happened. If you don't..."

He trailed off, but the threat was crystal clear.

Celeste's eyes were practically spitting fire.

Charmaine must've had the worst luck in the world to catch the attention of such a petty, grudge-holding, pretentious man!

No way. As a good friend, she had to help Charmaine escape his clutches!

Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm down. She plopped back into her chair, shooting daggers at Rex's annoyingly smug face. Finally, she let out a long breath.

"Fine. I'll do it. But let's be clear-I'm not telling you anything private."

Rex raised a brow. "Deal."

He lifted his teacup. "Looking forward to working together."

Like hell, she was looking forward to this.

Celeste forced a fake smile, grabbed her teacup, and dramatically rolled her eyes before downing the tea in

one go.
