"Join us," Logan said, without bothering to ask for my opinion.

Selene promptly sat down, her eyes lighting up as she looked at the dishes. "Grilled fish! I've been craving this lately."

"Shall I order you some foie gras as well?" Logan asked without hesitation.

"And add a dessert, please. Frozen yogurt with strawberry jam. For the drink, I'll have orange juice," Selene added, then turned to me. "Elaine, would you like some orange juice too?"

"It's alright. I'll just have water," I replied, putting a piece of foie gras on my fork and into my mouth.

The foie gras was smooth and creamy, with a delicate milky flavor.

"Logan, is the foie gras you brought me before from this place?" Selene asked suddenly, her words making me pause mid-chew.

I glanced at Logan, who looked visibly uncomfortable before he slowly replied, "Yes."

So, that's why he knew it was good-he'd brought it for her before. Meanwhile, this was my first time having it.

The piece of foie gras in my mouth suddenly lost all flavor.

Selene smiled at Logan, her gaze tender. "I thought so. The smell was familiar when I passed by here." Then she turned to me. "Elaine, Logan must bring you here often. That's why he bought the foie gras for me; he already knew how good it is." Her words hit me like a knife, twisting as they landed.

I looked straight at her. "No, this is my first time here. I'm not as lucky as you are, Mrs. Harlow."

Selene's smile faltered, and she lowered her gaze.

"Lucky?" she whispered, her voice frail. "Liam has left me and... our child."

Her tears started falling immediately, catching me off guard. How did a simple conversation lead to this?

"Elaine!" Logan' voice was heavy with disapproval as he called my name and handed Selene a tissue. "Don't think too much. Crying isn't good for the baby."

"If Liam were here, I wouldn't have to eat alone like this," Selene murmured, taking the tissue from Logan. "Sorry. My emotions are all over the place because of the pregnancy. I don't want to ruin the mood. I should leave..."

As she began to stand, Logan reached out and stopped her. "You're worrying about something you don't need to. We've already ordered. Try the grilled fish here-it's delicious."

He picked up his fork and was about to place a piece of fish on her plate when I interrupted, "Logan, you should use the serving utensils, not your own fork, to serve Mrs. Harlow."

Logan froze mid-action, and the atmosphere grew tense.

Selene looked at him and said softly, "Logan, there's no need to serve me.

can help myself."

Logan placed the fish on his own plate instead. Then, he took my plate, carefully picking a piece of fish and removing the bones. I remembered the time I'd gotten a fishbone stuck in my throat. Ever since then, Logan had always deboned fish for me during meals. Logan was always like this-hurting me with one hand, then offering a sweet gesture with the other.

"Elaine, Logan treats you so well," Selene sighed.

"Who else should he be good to if not me?" I replied, eating the fish. After a pause, I added, "It would be a problem if he treated others the same way, wouldn't it, Mrs. Harlow?"noveldrama

Selene glanced at Logan before replying softly, "Yes."

The subtle exchange between them wouldn't have been so obvious if I

"Mrs. Harlow, how far along are you in your pregnancy?" I asked abruptly.

Before Selene could answer, Logan interrupted, "Elaine, if you don't eat your foie gras soon, it'll get cold, and the texture will be ruined."

I wasn't stupid-I knew he was trying to stop me from asking about her pregnancy,

But hadn't he assured me the child wasn't his? Why couldn't I ask?

"Even now, the texture is already ruined," I said flatly.

The atmosphere turned colder. Logan looked at me sharply, sensing my change in tone. I met his gaze, and we silently confronted each other.

The warm, pleasant atmosphere we'd had when we first arrived was gone. Indeed, three's a crowd.

Just then, the waiter arrived with Selene's dessert and drink. "Would you like the foie gras sliced, ma'am?" he asked politely.

"No need," Selene replied, then turned to Logan. "Logan, could you help me cut it? You know just the right size."

"Mrs. Harlow," I interjected before Logan could respond, "the restaurant offers slicing services. Let's not bother Logan, especially since he's busy deboning fish for me." Selene bit her lip. "Sorry, Elaine. I didn't think it through. I'll do it myself."

"Elaine!" Logan said sharply. "Selene doesn't trust food handled by others, especially now that she's pregnant."

This was the third time tonight he'd called my name in that tone.

"Ha!" I couldn't help but laugh. "Which dish in front of her hasn't already been handled by others?"

Logan fell silent, his face stiff.

Selene's expression turned panicked. "I'm sorry, Elaine. I didn't mean to

Now, it was just Selene and me at the table. Neither of us touched or food.

After a few moments, Selene broke the silence. "Elaine, you hate me, don't you?"

At least she had some self-awareness,

"I don't hate you," I replied calmly, "but you make me uncomfortable." I met her pitiful gaze and continued, "Logan is my fiancé, and we're about to get married. Yet you keep leaning on him. "You've even asked him to come to you in the middle of the night. Don't you think that's crossing a line? Would you be okay if you were in my shoes?"
