Chapter 711
"You talk a big game, but actions speak louder than words."
The man's voice was smooth, with a hint of charm. "Give it a shot, that's the only way to see if there's still something left between us. It's the simplest, most direct approach."
With that, he scooped her up effortlessly and laid her back onto the soft bed. Everett leaned down, kissing her while his hand slid her nightgown off, leaving his mark on her fair, delicate skin.
Selena wanted to respond to him.
But deep down, she knew Everett likely saw her as nothing more than a plaything, just like before. That thought made her feel resistant, unable to show a genuine reaction.
Even though she lay there quietly, letting him do as he wished, Everett could sense her silent rejection. Such one-sided pursuit was dull; suddenly, it all felt pointless.
Everett rolled away, leaning back against the headboard. He grabbed a pack of cigarettes, lit one, and took a drag. Looking at the disheveled woman, who seemed to invite more, his tone turned cold.
"Selena, if you're not into it, just say so."
After a long pause, Selena finally sat up, her back to him, trembling as she tidied her clothes, her dress slightly torn from his handling. His gaze lingered on her slender, delicate back.
Her dark hair tumbled down to her waist, her skin pale and soft, and her waist impossibly narrow-a real siren. Despite her ruining the mood, his desire lingered, refusing to fade.
It was intriguing. He couldn't find any affection for her, yet he was undeniably drawn to her body. Or was it simply because, since coming back, she was the only woman he'd been with?
The next morning, the air was crisp and fresh after the rain. Today, the sun was shining brightly. Mateo hugged his mom tightly for what felt like forever before reluctantly climbing into the car, looking back with every step.
Ava was tearful too. "Ma'am, I'll take good care of Mateo, don't worry."
Selena nodded, tears in her eyes. Haley, not wanting her brother and Ava to leave, pouted in displeasure She couldn't understand why her parents had to live apart, why her dad had to take her brother and Ava away. Her dad was mean; she didn't like him anymore.
Everett came over to hug her, but Haley puffed out her cheeks, ignoring him. He kissed his little daughter's chubby cheek and then turned to Selena. "Every month you can bring our daughter to Newport to visit, or I can bring our son to Northtown."
He paused, his tone turning suggestive. "Of course, if you want to move back to Newport, we could be closer."noveldrama
Selena understood what he meant. He didn't love her or want to remarry, but as a man with needs, he enjoyed her company and didn't mind a casual arrangement.
The car slowly drove away. Selena stood there, Watching for a long time. By evening, the sky was ablaze with vibrant colors. Everett returned to his new place, Lakeside Mansion, with his son. It was bigger and
fancier than his old Moon Bay home, and the two places were quite close.
Just as they settled in, Carolina dropped by, saying she wanted to see her
grandson. Everett came down the spiral staircase with Mateo in tow.
In the living room, Carolina sat elegantly on the sofa, sipping tea. Beside her was
a young, beautiful woman. Everett's dark eyes slowly scanned the room, finally resting on the woman's face.
