Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 574

Jenny had just been rattling on, and to say her heart wasn't touched even a smidgen would be a lie. The idea that Everett, a man of his caliber, would stay loyal and chaste was definitely surprising. It seemed pretty obvious that Jenny's appearance here today was

orchestrated by him. He wanted to use Jenny's words to paint a picture of how disciplined and pure he'd been over the past three years.

But what about Yasmine? Those rumors about her and Everett weren't just pulled out of thin air. Over these years, they had been in regular contact. Yasmine lived in his villa, worked at Bennett Corporation as his secretary, always by his side, and everyone there saw her as the future Mrs. Bennett. She even had the nerve to flaunt her status in front of little Mateo. If she hadn't shown up yesterday, who knows, he and Yasmine might have even gotten engaged.

These were hard facts to digest. Any tiny flutter in her heart was quickly squashed by her logic. She'd grown wiser; she knew that when a man wants to win over a woman, he can pull out all the stops to show his so-called love and devotion. But once she's hooked, and he gets what he wants, he often finds it dull and starts looking for thrills elsewhere. She wasn't interested in hearing his excuses anymore; she wanted to see action.

If he was genuinely sorry and wanted a fresh start with her, to be a good dad and husband, he'd have to clean up his act and ditch any inappropriate ties. And she had her own stuff to figure out. She needed to clear her head before having any serious talk with him. Just then, Ava came out to remind her, "Ma'am, it's time to head to the hospital."

Selena remembered her uncle's surgery was today, and she needed to be there for him. She nodded, "Okay, get Mateo dressed, and I'll be right there."

"Got it," Ava replied and headed back inside.

Selena turned to Everett and said softly, "I'm off to the hospital."

He couldn't help but feel disappointed. He didn't want to accept that Selena wasn't ready to love him again. He wanted all of her no matter what it took. He could tell that after Jenny's chat, her stance had softened a little, not as cold as before, leaving a crack open for some hope. Yet, she still kept her heart guarded, not ready to take a step closer.

He gazed at her for a while but decided not to push too hard. He nodded, "Alright, get ready, I'll drive you there."

This time, Selena accepted his offer.

She went upstairs, changed, and then sat in the backseat with little Mateo. The kid was buckled into his car seat, while she sat beside him. Everett glanced at Selena through the rearview mirror, sensing She was still a bit distant, but he didn't mind, happily playing chauffeur for his wife and son.

The car sped down the road. With his mom around, little Mateo was way more animated than usual. Normally, he'd be quiet as a mouse with just his dad, but today, he was chattering non-stop with his mom, asking a million questions. Selena patiently entertained his childish banter. noveldrama

At a red light, Everett suddenly asked, "Did you enroll him in a school abroad?"

Selena responded without missing a beat, "Before I came back, I had already lined up a school for him, planning to start as soon as we returned."

She hadn't expected that what seemed set in stone was now so uncertain-

Everett nodded slightly, "Got it."
