Chapter 573
She arched an eyebrow playfully and quipped, "Looks like Mr. Everett isn't incapable, just selective about who he shows it to..." Selena was left speechless.
Everett shot Jenny a cold glare, gritting his teeth as he snapped, "Cut the nonsense!"
Jenny, at the sharpness in his voice, quickly ducked into Selena's arms, whining, "See, sis-in-law, Mr. Everett is picking on me!"
Selena was taken aback by Jenny's personality. She had expected a haughty heiress, but Jenny came across as an endearingly naive girl. It was clear she had been raised in a warm, nurturing environment, cherished by her family, which had shaped her playful demeanor. Selena herself might have been similar once upon a time.
A gentle smile crept onto Selena's face without her realizing it.
Seeing her smile, the tension that had been building in Everett's chest all evening eased a bit. Maybe Jenny wasn't entirely useless after all.
He pulled out a credit card, placed it on the coffee table, and said coolly, "Your job's done. I'll have Alex arrange for you to leave."
Jenny, not one to stand on ceremony, grabbed the card and kissed it with a smile.
Turning to Selena, she exclaimed, "Sis-in-law, this is the first time I've earned money on my own-it feels amazing!"
Selena was caught off guard. "So, how did you get by before?"
As Jenny tucked the card away, she replied, "My dream life is to rely on my dad when I'm young, my husband when I'm married, and my son when I'm old! Making money myself is too exhausting!" Selena couldn't help but laugh. It was blunt, but it made sense.
If you can live comfortably without working, why would anyone choose to work?
She found herself liking Jenny's straightforwardness.
After collecting her payment, Jenny didn't linger, mainly because Everett seemed like he couldn't wait for her to disappear.
Selena got up to see her out.
Just before getting into the car, Jenny

Selena paused, taking in Jenny's warning.
She knew Jenny meant well and appreciated the advice.
She smiled, "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Come back to Newport sometime, and I'll make sure you're spoiled."noveldrama
Suddenly, Jenny hugged her and planted a quick kiss on her cheek.
"If I were a guy, I'd definitely-"
Before she could finish, someone grabbed her collar and pulled her away.
Everett, looking stern, shoved Jenny into the back seat of the car and slammed the door shut.
Jenny rolled down the window and teased, "Even jealous of women, Mr. Everett? You're something else!"
"Get out of here!" he replied with a cool elegance.
The car sped away, Jenny's voice fading into the distance.
Turning back, Everett's deep eyes locked onto Selena. After a moment, he asked, "Anything on your mind?"
What do you think?
