Marrying the Man in the Dark

Chapter 1198

Chapter 1198 Silenced by Her

Violet's gaze sharpened as she uttered, "Hold off on terminating her employment for the time being."

A cold smirk played on her lips. "Let her remain for now."

"And tell her, I agree to her conditions."

Six hundred thousand-wasn't that all?

For Violet, six hundred thousand was nothing more than loose change.

She hesitated at the idea of parting with such a sum to Lucy-not due to financial strain, but because she questioned the worth of exchanging such a hefty amount for Lucy's services.

But things are different now...

She sat there, watching the car disappear down the road, her eyes brimming with bitterness.

A soft chuckle escaped her lips. "And while you're at it, see how Lucy's been faring these days."

Ending the call, Violet reclined in her chair, collected herself, and dialed Lennon's number with poise.

After a brief pause, he answered the call.

Violet's voice carried a melodic lilt as she spoke, "Where are you right now, Lenn?"

There was a momentary pause on the other end. "I'm in the hospital."

"The Hospital? Why? Are you sick?"

"It's just a headache; I had a restless night," Lennon replied.

"Ahh, I see," Violet acknowledged

A subtle smile played on her lips. "I bumped into Lucy earlier."

"She remains as infuriating as always. Ugh, why does she have to be the one to handle my birthday party!" Violet vented.

"If only my birthday wasn't coming up in just three days, or I wouldn't have gotten her services! It's so vexing!"

The man on the other end let out a chuckle, "Just disregard her presence. Act as if she's not even there."

When Lucy regained consciousness in the hospital, she found Colin seated beside her, engrossed in sketching comics on a sketchbook.

Struggling to move, she queried, "Why am I here? What happened?"

Colin swiftly set aside his sketchpad upon hearing her voice. "You passed out on the street, and a compassionate stranger brought you to the hospital."

Concern etched his face as he inquired, "How's your body's condition? Want me to fetch a doctor to see you?"noveldrama

Lucy waved with a dismissive gesture. "It's alright, I'm good."

It was likely just a residual effect from the stress of encountering Violet, nothing alarming.

Colin looked at her intently, wanting to speak but hesitating to say the words aloud.

After a pause, he inhaled a significant breath to compose himself. Then, with his head turned slightly, he said, "I gave my word to Mandy that I'd help you keep this under wraps, but you have to take care of yourself, too. Please."

Lucy nodded gratefully. "Thanks. I appreciate it."

She straightened her back, rubbing her temples wearily. "I have a crucial task that needs to be done in three days. Once it's completed and I've received the funds, I'll resign and prioritize my recovery."

Assuming the responsibility of arranging the celebration was her way of preventing Lennon from contesting custody of Alexis.

With Lennon now willing to forego the custody dispute on the condition that she assist in organizing Violet's birthday party, her obligations were nearing an end.

Moreover...

It was true that her health was faltering.

Colin let out a deep sigh. "Honestly, I don't think you should proceed with this job."

"I understand what this job means-you have to set up a birthday party for your former adversary," Colin emphasized.

"Lulu, if you're truly in financial need, I can assist you."

"I may not have a lot to offer; however, at the end of the day, my family is well-off.

I have the means to assist you," he offered sincerely.

Lucy gazed at him with a gentle smile. "We're not related at all, so why would I

ask you to financially assist my needs?"

Colin's attempt to offer help was swiftly shut down by her reply.

No connection between them...

He managed a wistful smile. "Yeah...you're not wrong."

She never once saw him as a potential partner, but he harbored dreams of a future where they could live together as a genuine couple.

Steadying his breath, Colin met her gaze earnestly. "Then what about this arrangement? Because my contributions to the company are limited, please let me know what needs to be done in the upcoming days. I'm ready to assist you in any way I can. Consider me your reliable assistant!"
