Chapter 1189
Chapter 1189 A Deep-Seated Feud
Her heart pounded fiercely against her chest, and her hands trembled as she handed the towel to Mandy.
Cherise hurried to the balcony without hesitation, her footsteps echoing in her ears as she urgently called out for Damien.
"Darling..."
The woman's voice quivered with an impending wave of tears as she spoke on the phone.
Meanwhile, Damien sat across from Jude, casually sipping tea. When Cherise's voice reached him, his demeanor abruptly shifted. "What's wrong?" His tone grew tense and concerned.
"I just saw Lennon here," Cherise murmured, her voice laden with concern. "He... he wasn't his usual self."
Cherise sat on the balcony, closing her eyes. She was desperately trying to recall the way Lennon used to be at this time.
It was clear: he was not himself.
In Violet's presence, his eyes appeared hollow and joyless.
His indifference felt like a cold blade slicing through Lucy whenever he looked at her.
His posture slumped, weighed down by an unmistakable solitude and desolation. While she prided herself on her perceptiveness, her thoughts were always on Lucy, unintentionally neglecting Lennon at the time.
Tears cascaded down the woman's cheeks as she exclaimed, "I knew it... I just knew it! After all these years of friendship with Lennon, how could he possibly be a scoundrel... how could he..."
The man on the phone fell silent momentarily, her words hanging heavy as he gripped the phone.
He rose abruptly, sidestepping Jude, who was sitting and sipping his tea with serene detachment. "If you suspected it, then it's probably true," he conceded solemnly.
"Lenn... he's got a deep-seated feud with the Belcourt family," he continued, his tone heavy with implication.
A deep-seated feud.
Those words pierced Cherise like shards of glass, shattering her emotions once more.
She had been right all along. Lennon had not only hurt Lucy but had also inflicted deep wounds upon himself.
She struggled to speak through her tears, sniffling. "Lucy drank a lot today, got a fever, and fell ill."
"I hope she can find happiness... I hope she..." Her words dissolved into sobs, and she was too overwhelmed to continue.noveldrama
"It's impossible, Cherry," Damien stated calmly, his demeanor contrasting sharply with her disbelief.
"It's his own decision," he added, his voice steady.
"Did you try to talk him out of it?" she asked, her voice filled with doubt.
"No, I helped him make that choice," Damien replied evenly.
Cherise was left utterly speechless.
She wept inconsolably, the questions she wanted to ask Damien caught in her throat, unable to find the right words.
It felt like everything had come full circle.
Lucy met Lennon because of her intervention.
It was her influence that sparked Lucy's love for Lennon.
Even now, the complex dynamics between Lucy and Lennon remain intertwined with her presence.
Despite seeing herself as Lucy's closest friend, she inadvertently brought about an irreparable calamity in Lucy's life.
"Are you at Gray Residence?" Damien asked urgently.
He took a deep breath and continued, "I'll come to get you."
Cherise nodded vigorously, even though she knew he couldn't see her.
Her devastation was overwhelming, rendering her speechless.
The call concluded abruptly, leaving her hunched over on the balcony, her hand shielding her eyes from the harsh reality.
Tears streamed through her fingers, unstoppable and unchecked.
Inside the room behind her, Mandy and Alexis carried on with their respective activities—one tall and the other small-unaware of the storm of emotions raging just outside.
By the time Damien arrived at the Gray Mansion, Cherise had collapsed, overwhelmed by her tears. The man dropped to his knees beside her, gently gathering her limp body into his arms.
"Cherry... She..."
Mandy stood frozen in shock, her mouth gaping open at the sight of Cherise's unconscious form and Damien's anguished expression.
She had overheard Cherise talking on the balcony earlier and assumed she was flirting with Damien.
With Lucy and Colin keeping them busy, she and Alexis were too occupied to step
in.
But how had things escalated so quickly?
"She cried until she couldn't breathe anymore. I think she fainted from it."
Damien said softly, holding her tightly in his arms. "She's always carried guilt for what happened to Lucy."
What do you think?
