Chapter 1916
Vera hadn't expected Caleb to sober up so quickly, but as soon as she spoke, the haze of alcohol vanished from his eyes.
"Luna had just undergone surgery, and now she was out drinking? Was she trying to kill herself?" Caleb thought to himself.
Seeing the shift in Caleb's expression, Vera repeated Luna's exact words.
But Caleb didn't say a single thing in response. Without hesitation, he stood up and stormed out of the room.
Watching his retreating figure, Vera knew that Luna still held an irreplaceable place in Caleb's heart. Caleb quickly tracked down the private room where Luna was.
Tonight, she had an important business deal to finalize. She had to be there in person. But knowing she couldn't drink, she had only filled her glass with warm water.
The business partners didn't mind. In fact, they respected her even more showing up to negotiate a deal despite recovering from surgery was a testament to her dedication.
What they hadn't expected, however, was for Caleb to burst into the room and snatch the glass from Luna's hand, throwing it aside.
His voice was filled with fury. "Luna, do you have any self-respect at all? Do you even know the state you're in right now?"
Luna had never seen Caleb this angry before.
So, what?
Was he here because he ran into Vera and she told him what happened?
"Caleb, have you lost your mind? I'm in the middle of a negotiation-"
"Forget your damn negotiation! Get out!" Caleb roared.
His sudden outburst stunned everyone. Luna's business partners didn't want to get caught up in personal drama, so they immediately stood up.
"Apologies, Miss Gibson," one of them said hastily. "Since your family has come to find you, let's reschedule."
"There won't be a reschedule," Caleb snapped.
His anger boiled over.
When he got Luna's call that night and found out she had appendicitis, he had rushed her to the hospital without hesitation.
He had been with her through the entire ordeal-waiting outside the operating room, making sure she was comfortable in recovery, ensuring she had everything she needed. en
And now, after all that, she was here, completely disregarding her own health?
If this was how she treated her recovery, why even bother with the surgery? She might as well have stayed home and let it kill her.
Within moments, the room emptied, leaving only Luna and Caleb behind.
Luna's lips curled into a mocking smile as she met Caleb's enraged gaze. "So, this is what you've become, Caleb? I exchanged a few words with your precious Vera and you came running? Do you even know how important this deal was?"
Caleb's eyes darkened. "You think I'm here because of Vera?"
He let out a bitter laugh, his voice turning icy. "Luna, you just had surgery. You're a patient. Shouldn't you
at least take care of yourself?"noveldrama
"I know my own body, Caleb," Luna retorted. "And I also know what's more important. You ruined my deal tonight. I never expected-"
"You never expected what?” Caleb
cut her off, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “That I'd get in the way of your work? That I'd ruin things with your dear Simon? Let me make something very clear, Luna. This is the last time I come looking for you. I don't care what happens to you. If I ever give a damn about you again, I'm a damn fool."
She had just undergone surgery-what the hell was she doing out drinking?
But all his concern meant nothing to her.
Caleb let go of her wrist and took a step back.
Luna, unfazed, met his gaze coldly. "Caleb, I hope you mean that."
He didn't answer.
This time, he walked away without hesitation.
When Caleb returned to the private lounge, he grabbed a bottle and started drinking.
One after another.
Vera watched him, feeling a pang of sympathy.
But just as she was about to say something...
What do you think?
