Chapter 1424
Did they regret letting her go? Or maybe it was because they were sloppy and made a mistake? Was that why they've decided to reinvestigate?
That was impossible!
They hadn't gotten any evidence and didn't catch anyone red-handed on the scene, it was a little too late for them to be investigating now, wasn't it? The police couldn't be so spontaneous and random, that wasn't cool. If that really was the case, their dignity and reputation would suffer greatly! It just didn't make sense!
The moment she opened her mouth, Waverly had thought all those through in her mind, but she had yet to come to a conclusion. The fear and shyness in her eyes were now apparent, and in terms of appearances, besides being beautiful as always, one could also describe her to be-a good girl. She looked sweet even with no makeup on, and if you were to observe her carefully you would notice her full lips which were naturally curled upwards. It made people feel happy and blessed.
Those who didn't know her personally would wonder why she would be associated with the notorious and sexy "Black Widow"!
Having seen through countless people, the two men exchanged glances and thought that they had already dominated her.
Subsequently, a handsome young man in clean clothes stepped forward and showed her his official permit.
"Miss Castle, you don't have to be nervous, we're just here to ask you a few questions! As for why we've decided on this time and place, well, it was all out of consideration for your safety. Please forgive us for any inconvenience!"
The man was humble and polite. He made a good impression on Waverly. She lowered her gaze and scanned his permit. "Jake Lamer," she thought, "He seems pretty decent!"
"Yes, sir."
She gave them a nod. They were both in casual clothes, and the man behind Jake was holding a pen and paper. He was probably in charge of taking notes. If her manager hadn't introduced them, she wouldn't have known they were police officers. Moreover, they've chosen to meet her up during the weekends. Waverly was a little touched by their efforts.
Perhaps it was for her safety, or maybe they were in a hurry to question her, she thought it nice of them to pick the weekends. It was way better than being questioned during work.
However, what service could she be to them?
She couldn't help but feel suspicious as she wondered.
Jake gestured for her to sit down and exchanged glances with his colleague behind him.
"We're from the Narcotics Bureau. This is my colleague, Yaidan, and my name is Jake, Jake Lamer. We wanted to ask you some questions regarding the incident at Skycloud Hotel-"
The man roughly described the incident.
Waverly knew what he was talking about. Jake also mentioned how two police departments were called to the scene that day. That must be why she was taken by the other department and not the Narcotics Bureau.
Although, even if she knew about the matter, she wouldn't have thought too much about it since she wasn't even interrogated. She didn't even need to go through any paperwork before her release. She didn't know whether Mr. Andrews was dead or alive, but then, she never cared about that man anyway.
"Miss Castle, it took us a lot of effort to find you! Mr. Andrews had carried out some tests, and it is reasonable for us to suspect that he was doing drugs. To be honest, we've also caught some drug dealers in that hotel, and coincidentally, Mr. Andrews was a little involved with them, so it's quite a serious problem. Now, we need to know where they got the drugs from. You've taken the tests too, and you're clean, but we need to question everyone who had contacted Mr. Andrews that day, so I hope you'll tell us nothing but the truth!"
"A woman who had a close relationship with Mr. Andrews has been found dead, so for your safety, we have to conduct the investigation like this. Please cooperate!"
She knew Jake mentioned that to scare her. However, as soon as Waverly found out it was about Mr. Andrews, she heaved a sigh of relief, "Just ask me anything, it's just that, I don't really know him well. That was our first meeting!"
She couldn't just tell them that she had lost herself to him so she had gone along with him, right? That would make her seem so cheap and slutty. However, if she lied, she'd probably have to make up more lies to cover her lies, and that'd be inconvenient. She clenched her teeth and decided that since she wouldn't be in much contact with the two officers in front, she would just tell the truth, even if it was
embarrassing. Besides, her
reputation didn't mean anything to them!
In the end, she told them everything.
"Mr. Lamer, I'll tell you what happened! That Mr. Andrews guy looked arrogant,
and he didn't seem like someone to be trifled with.
He suddenly took a fancy for me, so I had no choice but to go with him, but I didn't
want to just let him bully me like that, so I tried contacting the police—"
She didn't tell them that she wrote that program she used. She said she just bought it for fun, and that she didn't really foresee herself using it in such a dire situation.
"Mr. Lamer, I didn't have any other choice. I didn't want to offend anyone, but I needed to save myself. Actually, I just found a stupid excuse to get the police there, does that count as false reporting? Could you let me go on this one?"
Waverly clasped her fists together and put on a pitiful expression.
For a while, only the sound of the pen and paper clashing together could be heard.
"Miss Castle," Jake finally answered, "Don't worry!t's human to do what you did, and it's not illegal to want to protect yourself, so we won't hold you accountable! Our records are also confidential. For the safety of the witnesses, no one but the three obus here will know about this!"
After asking a few more questions, the two men left. Jake even gave Waverly his
phone number in case she recalled more details from that day!
She saw the two men off. Waverly was relieved, but the memories she had tried
so desperately to forget suddenly came surging back. Her face paled instantly.
At the same time, her manager came running toward her.
"Waverly, what happened? Mr. Lamer said someone counterfeited your identification card, is that true? You've got to be careful with these things! Some people may commit crimes with your identity."
Waverly was pulled back to her senses.
"Yeah," she paused for a second before replying, "Maybe it's because I lose my purse, but I've told them everything, it's alright-"
"Just, be careful, alright? You almost scared me to death. I wanted to throw you a hint, or give you a heads up on the phone, but those two kept staring at me! Inoveldrama
didn't have the guts!
Good thing you're alright!"
"Okay, I understand. Thank you!"
Mr. Lamer was quite thoughtful after all. After dealing with some stuff, she went home since she didn't need to really work overtime. However, the memories she was trying to seal shut were forcefully torn open again. Her feelings started fluctuating.
It was all that killer's fault! It if weren't for them, she wouldn't be in so much
trouble!
As she drove, her mind kept
wandering through the memories from that night. Waverly stopped by
a flower shop and ordered herself a bouquet of roses. She waited at a coffee shop nearby. As she drank her milk tea, she took a picture of the flowers on the table out of boredom and posted it on Facebook.
"To wait, it's the most boring thing...It's tormenting-"
