Josephine fought the urge to roll her eyes. "Why would I listen to it? I'm not interested," she said.

"You put so much effort in helping me promote it but you won't even listen to it? There's a song in there that I wrote for you. You'll regret it if you don't listen," Yvan replied.

Just as he finished speaking, the hospital door suddenly swung open. A second later, Nadine rushed in.

She wore a hoodie and jeans. Her high ponytail bounced as she moved. Slightly out of breath, she looked fresh-faced and endearing.

"What happened to Zayn?"

Nadine hurried to Zayn's bedside. Her face was filled with worry as she looked at Zayn.

Josephine didn't want to deal with Nadine. The moment she saw Nadine, she got up and smoothed out her clothes. Then, she turned to Ethan and said, "Let's go."

Ethan nodded and quickly stepped to her side.

Just as they were about to leave, Nadine rushed forward and blocked them.

"Stop! You're not going anywhere! You haven't explained anything yet. What did you do to Zayn? How did he end up like this? The head nurse called me and said he crashed because he was on the phone with you while driving!" Nadine exclaimed.

"So, the nurse already told you." Josephine met her gaze coldly.

"Then she must've also told you about his condition. He has no other injuries besides a fracture and a concussion. You can stay here and take care of him. There's nothing to make a fuss about," Josephine added.

Nadine was furious. "Besides a fracture and a concussion? He's badly hurt and you act like it's nothing. Do you even have a conscience? Do you deserve everything Zayn has done for you?"

Josephine chuckled. "Done for me? Tell me, what exactly has he done?"

Nadine looked outraged. Her face burned with indignation. "All the gifts he gave you. You didn't even return them. Instead, you sold them and donated the money like you're some kind of saint. You took all of his things and his Forbes Group shares. Now, you're standing here like you've done nothing wrong? If you have any shame, give it all back to Zayn!" Nadine demanded.

Oh. So that was what this was really about.

Josephine had wondered why Nadine was putting on such a dramatic show. It turned out, it was the gifts and the shares she was after.

And since Yvan and Ethan were here, she probably didn't want to be too obvious about it. So instead, she pretended to defend Zayn.

What an act. Too bad Josephine wasn't buying it.

She stepped toward Nadine, closing the distance between them.

"First of all, yes, I sold those gifts. But I never donated the money. Some stranger decided to do that in my name still have no idea who they are. So, all the money from those sales? Still sitting comfortably in my account. And you're not getting a single cent," Josephine said, her tone slow and deliberate.

Nadine's eyes widened. "W-What?"

"As for the Forbes Group shares, I bought them with my own money. Besides, I've already sold them off to a financial giant at the original price. That money? It's also in my account. And again, not a single cent for you," Josephine continued.

She stepped even closer, her presence looming over Nadine.

"And finally, the asset appraisal isn't even done yet. Between me and Zayn, we still don't know who owes who. If it turns out he's the one who has to pay me, you'd better

remember this moment. Don't forget to help him pay up."

With that, Josephine grabbed Ethan's hand and walked away.

She had been acting too.

Josephine had stepped into character. She borrowed the persona of a ruthless protagonist from one of her own films. She played the role with precision. It was a flawless performance.

But the moment the act was over, her heart pounded wildly in her chest. All she wanted to do was to leave.

But in reality, she wasn't that harsh by nature. It took effort for her to speak with such sharp words. It drained her.

She let out a long breath of relief once she stepped out the door.

Thank God she had held her ground. At least she hadn't let Nadine trample over

her.
