Trouble in Paradise

Chapter 0683

I suddenly received a call from Douglas. He asked when I would need Tabitha's passport back, as it was still with him. I couldn't help but feel that once a person wakes up to the truth, everything starts to fall into place as it was meant to. "Send it to Coral Villa," I said, then hung up and went to find Tabitha.

"Tabitha, would you like to go abroad to see Aunt Deena?"noveldrama

Tabitha was growing up fast, her eyes as dark as Nicholas'. When I entered her room, she was leaning by the window, looking outside.

I patted her head. "The windowsill is cold. Next time, make sure to put a blanket here if you want to lay down here, okay?"

"Whatever." Tabitha was concise with her words. Then, she asked, "What about him?"

"Are you asking about your brother or your father?"

No matter who it was, it seemed that Tabitha now had someone to care about.

Tabitha didn't answer. She just continued staring out the window. I followed her gaze and saw not only the golden leaves but also a sweaty little boy who was collecting leaves from around him and stacking them up.

I watched for a while and noticed the leaves had been arranged into the shape of a star-golden and bright-but with the wind, they scattered.

Cory wasn't upset though. He gathered the leaves again, one by one, creating more stars on the ground.

I patted Tabitha's hair gently, then quietly left the room. I thought maybe this was what the doctors meant by companionship-the joy of children was truly simple.

I didn't even pack my luggage. I just grabbed a bag with a laptop and phone and took a taxi to the airport.

I asked the staff about the nearest flight to anywhere and bought a random ticket. I just wanted to clear my head.

I went to the northernmost part of

the country to see the snow, to witness the pure white color, to empty my mind, to work on the law book had set aside, and to reflect

on the issues between Nicholas and me.

Nicholas quickly realized I wasn't at home. That night, my phone rang nonstop. When I didn't answer, he switched to sending messages.

I blocked him, then went outside the

hotel to watch the snow, joining local tourists in searching for nocturnal animals that occasionally came out at night to hunt. I tried to smile and have fun.

People in the north were very warm, but even when I smiled, I wasn't truly happy. I had a bad premonition, making me uneasy.

Sure enough, when I returned to the hotel, my phone was blowing up. I had the eerie feeling that everyone in my contact list was trying to reach me all at once...

I called Yasmine. Her voice on the other end sounded anxious. "Ari, where are you?"

"What's going on? Why is everyone calling me all of a sudden? My phone is still showing incoming calls."

"Something happened! Nicholas has been taken in for investigation!"

"What did you say?!" My voice trembled. "What happened to him?"

My first reaction was to worry if Nicholas' company had done something illegal. His company was so big, and if something went wrong, it would definitely attract the attention of higher authorities. If it escalated, it would be hard for him

vel?

to get out of it...

I heard the sound of a car starting on the other end. "Haven't you seen the news? Nicholas held a press conference, and right after that, the police took him away!

"But don't worry. I'll handle it. After all, I took on Daniel's case before, and I won't let this have anything to do with you.

"I'm calling to tell you that no matter where you are, hide now. Don't show yourself, don't speak, and don't let things get any worse!"
