The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback

Chapter 1000

Chapter 1000:

Corey’s look was incisive, as if slicing through Pierre. “What happened between you and Gemma while I was gone?”

Corey was an entirely different person when anger consumed him. His usual calm demeanor turned icy and ruthless, his words cutting like shards of glass.

Pierre was well aware of Corey’s reputation—cold, unyielding, and not above having someone killed to make a point.

It was precisely this reputation that kept Pierre honest. Lying to Corey wasn’t an option.

“Miss Hampton was unwell. With Sheila absent, I stepped in to care for her. During that time, she was too afraid to sleep alone, so I stayed on the sofa in her bedroom every night.”

Corey’s eyes narrowed, his gaze chilling. “Every night?”

Pierre lowered his head slightly, his tone even. “Only for four days.”

Corey let out a sharp, mirthless laugh. “And you didn’t touch her at all?”

Pierre’s chest tightened—not from fear of Corey, but from the vivid memory of that one unexpected moment. The faint, intoxicating scent lingering from beneath her dress still haunted him. He swallowed hard, forcing his voice steady. “Not at all, Mr. Hampton.”

Corey’s tone grew colder, almost venomous. “No touch. And you haven’t seen anything?”

Pierre replied, “No.”

Corey was far from convinced. A man and a woman, alone in a room for four nights. Even with Pierre’s cautious nature, Corey doubted Pierre hadn’t peeked at Gemma when she dressed lightly or accidentally revealed her skin beneath her clothes. Corey’s rage erupted. He slammed his hand against the table, sending the kettle tumbling to the floor.

Pierre remained unmoving, his expression calm. His composure was that of a man with nothing to fear—nothing to hide.

Corey was livid, but as he recalled Gemma’s actions in the hospital room earlier, he suspected she might have developed feelings for Pierre and reluctantly suppressed his urge to get rid of him.

Corey sighed. Gemma had been shielded her entire life, rarely allowing any man to get close to her. Even though Pierre was Gemma’s personal bodyguard, he was assigned to stand guard at her bedroom door. Plus, it was Alicia who introduced Pierre. Therefore, Corey hadn’t thought much of it. Who would’ve guessed things would develop to this point?

Corey scrutinized Pierre’s face. Pierre wasn’t particularly handsome but exuded a rugged masculinity, his features hardened by years spent in underground boxing rings.

“How many women have you been with?” Corey asked abruptly.

Pierre stayed composed. “Mr. Hampton, I’m perfectly healthy. If you’re concerned, I can get a full medical check-up tomorrow.”
