Chapter 237
THEON
Instead of going back to the mansion, Miro and Theon instead went straight to the military base where Dominic, El, Zed and Diana were waiting.
On the way, we had received footage on how Ryn followed Adam into the woods and how they later latched onto a truck and left.
Ryn had seemed willing to leave with Adam which meant she had no idea who he was and the only reason she’d leave without telling us means she wants him to take her to his family.
Dammit! She’s being reckless and it could cost her her life and a world without Ryn is a world I don’t want to be in.
As soon as we entered Dominic’s office, Miro lunged for him, gripping him by the collar. Zed snarled, stepping forward but Dominic raised a hand, stopping him.
“I thought this kingdom was the safest place for her! How come your tests couldn’t detect that Adam’s a snake?!”
Dominic stayed calm, his hazel eyes dull. “Take your hands off me.” He quietly commanded.
“Or what?!”
By now, I would have stepped in, to cajole my brother and settle matters but I was just as equally pissed. Dominic deserved more than just a ruffle but then again, no one saw this coming.
Diana stepped forward, softly taking hold of Miro’s arms. Compared to his wrists, hers were bony and fragile–looking, yet when she laid hands on his wrists and tugged in the softest manner, Miro’s hands budged from Dominic’s collar.
He took a step back while glaring at the Alpha and down our twin bond, I felt his anger like volcanic eruptions, singing even
- me.
“It’s my fault.” El spoke up and we turned our attention to her. She looked straight ahead, standing at ease like a trained soldier. “I…I wasn’t kind with her and after I dropped her off, I didn’t make sure she went into the house. I just left her there.”
“You did what?” Dominic asked, his voice showing surprise. “You were under specific orders.”
“I know, Alpha. I-”
“I don’t want to hear your excuses!” He snapped. “You’re off duty as Lieutenant until further notice.”
Her eyes widened as she looked at him, then her lips parted as if to say something but she closed them, and nodded in resignation.
“If anyone should be punished, it should be you.” Miro began. “You vetted Adam. You said he was free to go! If he were still in custody, he wouldn’t have escaped with Ryn.”
eyes
carried the same fire “NO ONE IS TO BLAME!” Diana’s voice cut through the office. Her chest heaving as her hazel Ryn’s eyes always did when she was upset. Then she sighed. “We all didn’t know how bad Ryn’s mental health was.”
“I did.” I stated quietly..
“Even still,” Diana stepped forward, her gaze softening. “You couldn’t have been there for her at that moment. You both were going through a traumatic procedure and there was no way you could have felt what Ryn was going through. I should have felt it as her mother but I didn’t.”
She turned to face everyone else. “What’s done is done! We didn’t expect the friend she vouched for to betray her like that.

Can we please focus on finding a solution instead of bickering?”
A moment of silence settled, broken by a knock on the door.
“Come in.” Dominic ordered and a young man in military uniform came in and bowed. “Alpha. We have a lead on where they may have taken Miss. Ashmore.”
Immediately we all filed out of the office into a large hall alive and buzzing with military personnel on their computers as well as large screens dominating the walls.
Some screens had footage of traffic cams, while some were running facial recognition softwares.
We came to a stop in front of a network of large screens showing a satellite view of a place.
“What am I looking at?” Dominic asked, while folding his arms.
“These are satellite imagery of the last place we think the helicopter which took Miss Ashmore went.”
Dominic turned to the man. “What do you mean, ‘we think‘? Are you not sure where it went?”
A bead of sweat ran down from the man’s forehead. “That’s the thing sir. We traced the helicopter landing to a place nowhere on the map.” He did something on his tablet and a map of the four kingdoms appeared on the largest screen with a red circle marking a land right at the center.
“That’s the last known place we are very sure the helicopter landed but…” he tapped some more buttons and the red circle zoomed in to show a wide expanse of barren land. “There’s no structure on site. It’s like they disappeared into thin air.”
I studied the image, applying everything I knew about geology to it. That’s when I noticed some things and pointed to the screen. “Zoom in there for me?”
The operator obeyed and the image became a bit more clearer. That’s when I noticed a square piece of land didn’t seem to match the rest which were starting to grow taller. I heaved a sigh, coming to a conclusion.
“What is it, T?” Miro asked.
“They didn’t disappear into thin air. They went underground.” I stated.
it
“Makes sense.” Dominic stated, before grabbing his own tablet. “I did hear that the South King used to get a generous supply of the diamonds mined from the east and since the roads are dangerous and filled with rogues, the best way for him to get would have been…” He pressed something and suddenly, we could see through the land and see beneath it. “Cavemines. That’s where they entered.”
“I’m confused. Why didn’t they just land in the South?”
“Maybe they’re not welcome there?” El suggested. “After what happened to their King, they might want nothing to do with. Northerners.”
“Or…they may be trying to throw us off by keeping us guessing where they went.” Dominic countered.
“Or both.” Diana concluded. “It could be that they are not welcome and they are also trying to throw us off by sneaking into the kingdom to keep us guessing where they went.”
“Does that mean ‘they’ll use Ryn as a bargaining chip?” Miro asked and I shook my head.
“I don’t think so.” I answered. “They took all the diamonds and wealth they mined from the East. They could have gone anywhere overseas to start a new life. This is personal.”
“I agree.” Dominic sighed. “I’m afraid Ryn was captured to be made an example of.”
“Like the final nail in a coffin.” El added, her face gaunt with fear.
“Right before they disappear.” Zed concluded.
“So it’s settled? We are taking war to the South?” Miro asked.
“No. They don’t know we know about the cavemines.” Dominic stated. “We are taking that same route to the South.”
“And then what?” Miro asked. “The South is huge. We have no idea exactly where they took her.”
A moment of silence settled upon us rife with tension.
Ryn could be anywhere right now, going through a lot. Hell, she could be dead. I searched within myself, feeling for that bond that was now tethered to the one I had with Miro. Strangely, I could still feel her presence even though it was faint.
“We go to the South.” I said, breaking the silence and getting everyone’s eyes on me. “Miro and I will change into our form and use her scent to track her.”
“Since we are both mated to her, our wolves will have a sense of direction.” Miro added, stepping forward with a sense of urgency. “I’m in! Let’s go.”
Everyone seemed eager to start this mission, except Dominic who seemed lost in thought.
“You seem skeptical.” I stated, and he shifted his gaze towards me.
“I’m more than just skeptical.” He said, folding his arms behind him. “According to what I heard, the place is infested with wild rogues who I assume are under the payroll of the Blackwells. And it makees sense because the East first suffered an invasion of ‘rogues“,” he made an air quote. “That’s how they were able to subdue an entire kingdom so quickly.”
“So, there’s a possibilty that we could be attacked if we choose to go after the families?” Miro asked and Dominic nodded.
“Then we go with an army.” Diana stepped forward.
“The sight of an army might make them kill Ryn.” I countered.
“So what do we do?” Diana said with urgency. “We can’t just stand here and do nothing!”

Another moment of silence settled, then Dominic suddenly snapped his fingers, gaining all our attention. “I have an idea but it’s risky.”
“How risky?” I asked.
Dominic scratched his jaw. “We could lose our lives.”
