The Playboy Alpha is my Mate

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Lunch break

Sarah pov

The rest of the day felt like a blur. I worked like a charged robot. I took orders from the 'boss' and

instructions from Cheryl. I worked non stop. To be honest, I was trying to get what I had seen earlier out

of my mind. I hoped that the workload could remove the mental trauma that I was subjected to.

However, my wolf’s constant whimpers and whines made it so hard.

She was heartbroken that her mate had enjoyed someone else’s body. But that was nothing new to

him. He was and still is a flirt and a man whore. Perhaps, my wolf too would learn to accept the fact

that mate was a jerk.

One thing was certain, mate or not, if he doesn’t want to change, I was not going to fight for him. I may

not reject him for the fear of being cursed, but still, I wouldn’t want to depend on an asshole like that.

I had always loved to be independent. I always believed that females should be able to support

themselves regardless of having a male by their side or not. And that was exactly what I wanted to

work for. However, fate had taken an unexpected turn by offering the most powerful wolf in our pack as

my mate.

An unexpected and unwanted turn I would say. It would have been lovely if he was loving and caring

like my father was to my mom. The relationship between mates should be like that. They shouldn’t be

bound together just because of a bond. They must work for it and the efforts must be put in by both of

them.

And having a flirt for a mate who most probably has had sex with every single, ranked female was just

not what I desired. I had no idea of how I was going to make things work with a mate like him.

I was completely lost in my thoughts as I busied myself in the paperwork when I thought that I heard a

knock on the door, which I ignored at first. But then, another set of knocks made me frown.

Oh someone was definitely at the door and thankfully that was not my stupid mate. I could tell from the

scent.

“Come in,” I answered, not bothering to check who it was. I couldn’t care less. At least it was not that

flirt of an alpha.

“Ciao. Girl. Are you going to work till you drop?” Cheryl’s cheerful voice interrupted my thoughts.

Stunned, I looked up at her. I ended up staring at her for some time, making her shake her head and

tsk sympathetically.

“Bella ragazza. Come with me. You need to fill that tummy with food. Look at you. Your eyes are

already red with all that staring at the computer screen. And why do you look so pale? Didn’t you have

breakfast?” Her thick accent only made her seem more interesting to me.

“You’re Italian?”

I mentally facepalmed. Was that all that I was able to say after gaping at her like a freak? She chuckled

and I felt my face heat up in embarrassment.

“Si.” She giggled. “But I am now fluent in English too. I moved here with my mate five years ago. That

was enough time for me to learn to speak properly in your wonderful language.” She replied. Her

cheerful attitude did seem to ease me up a bit.

She frowned started to wave her hand, gesturing me to join her.

“Come here, Bella. You can’t work with an empty stomach. And we can have a good conversation while

we eat?”

I let out a deep sigh and leaned back in my seat. It was only then done I realise that my back was

aching from being seated for a long time at the table. I stretched myself and smiled.

“You are right. I need to take a break.” I admitted as I stood up. The lack of movement honestly had

made my muscles ache and my body was thankful for the slight movement that I had made.

“Let’s go.” I smiled, looking forward to having a proper conversation with this bubbly woman. I was sure

that talking to her would be therapeutic.

We went to the nearest café so that we could finish our lunch and go back to work. It was interesting

that she was speaking non stop the entire time. She told me so much about herself. How she grew up

with humans, thinking that she too was a human. And how surprised she was when she shifted on her

sixteenth birthday.

She had kept her wolf a secret from her family but she had by then realised that they couldn’t be her

birth parents. She told me how emotional it was for her parents to finally give in and answer her

questions truthfully.

They had told her that they found her abandoned as a baby during their visit to the states. They had

heard her cries in the woods and being childless, they wanted to adopt her. So they took her back

home and looked after her as their own.

She grew up in Italy, believing that she was a normal human girl, but when she started to hear voices in

her head, she was terrified. She then, did everything to learn more about our kind.

However, she didn’t have any complaints against them. It was because of them she had a happy life.

“Do they know about you now?” I asked.

She chomped on her grilled chicken sandwich as she shook her head.

“I didn’t know how to tell them. They just think that I met the love of my life and moved to the states to

start my life. ...which is kind of true.” She chuckled. “I still am in contact with them.”

I offered a small smile and bit into my sandwich, thinking about my mate. I was happy that Cheryl

sounded like she was happy with her mate. But for me? What was I supposed to do with mine?

“Have chch you hmdbn yourshhdh yet?” she asked with a mouth full of food but then covered her

mouth shyly.

“Sorry.” She let out an embarrassed laugh.

“I mean have you met your mate yet?” she repeated her question.

I grimaced, despite my efforts to keep my expression neutral.

“Oh you haven’t?” she guessed making me laugh a little. I wished I could be as full of life as her.

“I...I don’t know what to say to that Cheryl.” I sighed.

“Eh? You’re not making sense Bella ragazza.” She mumbled, furrowing her eyebrows at me.

I let out a nervous chuckle. Of course, I wasn’t making any sense. How could I make sense? It was just

yesterday I found out that I was mated to my boss and alpha, and today he was releasing his seeds

into another she-wolf right in front of me. He didn’t even acknowledge who I was and addressed me as

‘nothing important.’

Perhaps he hated being mated to me. I felt my heart sink once again as I thought about it.

“Have you or haven’t you?”

I looked dead into her emerald green eyes. She was seriously studying my face, trying to get an

answer out of me.

“What would you do if you ever found out that your mate cheated on you?” I asked, keeping my eyes

glued to hers.

“non c’è modo! He better not! I will kill him and his fling!” she growled but then she looked at me with

worry laced eyes.

“Don’t tell me yours cheated on you? But you aren’t marked and mated yet.”

“Yes.... how did you know?” I asked curiously.

“We are wolves. We can differentiate a mated wolf. And your marking spot is bare on your neck. You

look and smell very fresh.” She then narrowed her eyes at me. “Fresh but tired already. What

happened?”

I sighed. I couldn’t possibly tell her who my mate was. But she knew that I was not fine.

“I met my mate. And I found out that cheated on me.” Shrugging I stated.

“Aww. Bella....you are still young. Why don’t you reject him and start fresh? You don’t want a cheating

mate. It was a good thing you found out before he marked and mated with you. Otherwise, him

cheating on you would have been excruciating.” She told me.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Didn’t you know? If a mated and marked wolf cheats on its mate, the partner will feel the pain of

heartbreaking. And I mean literally. Some of us end up coughing blood too.” She explained and placed

her hand over mine.

“You deserve better Bella.” She whispered. I took in a shaky breath. I felt my heart thump in my chest.

“But.....I don’t want to be cursed forever.....” I bit my quivering lips, as I stared at my half-eaten

sandwich. I had lost my appetite. I was concerned about my future. If only I had control over my

fate......

I felt her gaze on me as sat silently in my seat, fighting an internal battle. I was anxious and there was a novelbin

huge lump in my throat, making it hard for me to swallow. One thing was certain. If he doesn’t change, I

don’t want him to mate or mark me. I didn’t want to live with the pain of my heart breaking each time he

chose to sleep around.

I felt Cheryl’s soft, warm hand squeeze mine. I forced a smile.

“I’ll be fine Cheryl. Let’s just not think about that right now.”
