Chapter 2224
Frank shook his head. "Probably not. Someone was concerned that he would expose their secret and therefore poisoned him. It's too late for him anyway-let's go see Pax."
Searching around the room, Frank soon found the hidden button to escape the underground passage and headed to Pax's room.
To Frank and Alda's surprise, Pax did not run despite knowing that danger was coming, even smoking as he sat on the couch.
His goons and girlfriends had long since disappeared from the oncoming threat.
"You're not afraid of me?" Frank asked, curious.
"What's the point? Would that help me kill you?"
Pax smiled. "I must admit that I misjudged you-I thought that you were no different from those martial arts fanboys, but you're actually a real champion. It's no shame that I'd lose to you."
As he finished, he reached into his pocket, glancing at Frank as if asking for permissions in case Frank would attack preemptively.
Frank eventually nodded, and Pax whipped out a palm-sized metal tablet that he placed on the table.
It was an emblem just like the ones seen in period dramas, with a crest and small font underneath that read: the Cerulean Summit Legion of the Tarren kingdom.
"Was this a legion that served the Tarren dynasty?"
Alda could see that there was more to this emblem than met the eye, but she did not remember the Cerulean Summit Legion from history either.
In that case, that would make the legion an irregular military force from that distant era.
Pax smiled but shook his head. "History texts lie, Ms. Ingram! Who would bother to record a legion of less than three thousand in detail?"
As he spoke, Pax passed Frank the emblem, but Alda shook her head to stop him.
Pax was as cunning as he was vicious-who knew if he had coated it with poison?
"Don't forget-I'm a miracle worker. I can deal with anything he does," Frank assured her, fearlessly taking the emblem.
And just as he expected, Pax might be ruthless, but he would not resort to such a cheap trick at this point.
At the same time, Pax began telling
et
his tale. "The first king of the Tarren dynasty grew up hearing stories about the spiritron vein and spent three years putting the Cerulean Summit Legion together. They were decreed to search the entire nation for spitrion veins.
"Like you, they headed to the mountains first before searching the tombs. It was too late by the time they obtained the secret of the spiritron vein, however, as the king had died a year before the discovery.
"Rumor has it that the spiritron vein was keen to entrust its profound energies to the king, but fate seldom proceeds as the people wish.
"As such, the quest was abandoned, and when the new king found out about the founder king's superstitions, he decreed the disbandment of the Cerulean Summit Legion.
"Unbeknown to him, Siger Jaric, the general of the Cerulean Summit Legion, had been affected by the

"They took steps to ensure that they were well-hidden as their influence grew. At this point, they had become too strong that those above couldn't hope to control them, but this emblem guaranteed their obedience."
Frank finally understood at that point-Pax had gone through great lengths just to surrender leadership of that mysterious military force to him! Still, he threw the emblem back at Pax. "I have no use for this."
Pax snorted. "You're kidding. This is prepared for the master of the Shagan spiritron vein. It's going to be yet another bloodbath if you reject it, especially if you allow it to fall into the wrong hands!
"Also, you should be thinking about
your own safety-the day that the spiritron vejn's energy is fully restored, you'll be unable to leave Shagan. In that case, you would be able to direct those legionnaires out there to do your bidding."
As Pax threw the tablet back to Frank once more, Frank decided that Pax was right.
If he really could not leave Shagan after this, it was likely that the Cerulean Summit Legion would be working in his stead.
What do you think?
