Chapter 235
Looking back, that nanny Evelyn fired was definitely suspicious. But now wasn't the moment for pointing fingers or explaining things away. Charles grabbed Evelyn's hand with urgency. His voice was barely hiding the desperation. "Where's Charlie? Which hospital?" He needed Evelyn to take him there to see Charlie for himself. He was clinging to the hope that Charlie was still alive, just unwell and in the hospital, which explained her absence.
Evelyn, however, stood her ground. Charles met her eyes, noticing the coldness and the slight mockery in them. His grip on her wrist tightened, and Evelyn felt his trembling. He was trying his best to keep it together, but it was clear as day that fear was seeping out.
Evelyn knew Charles was starting to realize the grim truth. Charlie might be gone. Deep down, he knew he had treated her terribly, much worse than she ever deserved. Fear and dread consumed him. He was avoiding the truth.
Charles was struggling, and fighting against the idea of losing Charlie. He attempted to stay composed, insisting, "I'll get her the best care. The top doctors. I will save Charlie... I..."
Evelyn cut him off with a bitter laugh. "Charles, it's too late... Charlie is already..."
"No!" Charles' voice cracked, cutting through her words. "It's not too late... We still have time! We must!" Seeing him in denial, Evelyn didn't soften. She delivered the harsh truth, shattering his illusions. "Charlie is already dead!"
The words hung heavy in the air.noveldrama
Tears streamed down Evelyn's face once more, Every mention of Charlie's death was like a dagger to her heart. Her eyes were red and filled with anger and pain. "She died that day..."
"Evelyn, stop!" Charles yelled, his

You're lying, aren't you? Evelyn, tell
me this isn't true!"
"Say it!" His voice was breaking, eyes red and pleading. How could he face that? Just as he wanted to make things right with Charlie, she was gone.
But Evelyn couldn't let him escape
this. His reaction was more intense than she expected; he loved Charlie more than she realized. But compassion wasn't on her mind. If he was hurting, she wanted him to feel every bit of it.
Without repeating herself, Evelyn pulled out Charlie's death certificate from her bag, holding it up to Charles. It was the final blow.
He couldn't look away. The words "Death Certificate" were glaringly obvious, and under the name section,
it read: Charlie.
