The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 456 Meeting at the Smith Mansion

At the hospital, Archibald looked furious as he listened to Emily recount all the things Sophia had done over the years.

The more he listened, the angrier he got. Finally, he couldn't help but exclaim, "So, you're saying Sophia's just a troublemaker?"

It was then that Emily realized that Sophia's wrongdoings were endless, and she could talk about them for days without finishing.

Over the years, she had become numb to these actions. Even recalling them now, she felt indifferent and casual.

Seeing Archibald so upset, Emily was surprised but also nonchalantly tried to comfort him. "But it's all in the past now, it doesn't matter."

Archibald frowned at her words. "But she's still around. How can you be safe? How can anyone be at ease with the baby you're carrying? No wonder Michael is so furious..."

Archibald wanted to say more, but Emily's expression changed at the mention of Michael.

She looked up at Archibald. "Michael... didn't cause any trouble at the police station, did he?"

Archibald hadn't seen Dean arrive at the station, so he missed Michael's outburst. But he could tell that Michael was on the edge, even though he sat quietly without saying a word or showing any anger. Archibald could see that Michael was holding on by a thread. If someone pushed him too far, that thread would snap, and there would be serious consequences.

Seeing Archibald shake his head, Emily felt relieved.

Michael had saved her time and again. She was grateful and couldn't help but marvel at the unbreakable bond between them.

With that thought, Emily gently touched her belly, wondering if this was the child's will.

"Emily, you mentioned that Sophia's mother is in a mental hospital now?"

Archibald's question snapped Emily out of her thoughts, and she nodded. "Yeah, it's her own doing..."

As she spoke, Emily suddenly remembered that Evelyn had tried to infiltrate their home, almost killing her mother, Isabella. Now, it seemed that mother and daughter had similar tactics.

Archibald watched as Emily's expression grew more serious, her hands clenched into fists in anger. He felt a chill and couldn't imagine what other secrets Sophia might be hiding.

After a while, seeing that Emily remained silent, Archibald continued to press for answers. Emily finally revealed everything, and Archibald was overwhelmed. He began to worry deeply about Dean's future and left the hospital, heading straight for Dean's hotel.

Meanwhile, Michael had returned to the Smith Mansion.

The mansion was as quiet and orderly as ever, with a stifling atmosphere that made it hard to breathe. Michael walked step by step towards the living room, wondering if Emily had felt the same way every time she came here.

"Probably." Michael answered his own question.

He had never understood why Emily described herself as a caged bird. Now he saw that the house, his position as CEO of Smith Corporation, and his identity as a member of the Smith family all trapped him.

Michael, the powerful CEO of Smith Corporation, seemed to have it all, but what was it really like?

He couldn't even act on his own desires. He couldn't publicly acknowledge the child he had with the woman he loved. That child no longer belonged to him, and he couldn't

let Emily, who had finally found freedom, be attacked by the public again.

So, he had to suppress his own feelings, driving himself nearly to madness and depression.

"Michael."

It was Mason's voice. He was waiting for Michael in the living room, along with Veda and Benjamin.

Michael was surprised to see Veda back. She was known for her temper and would leave home whenever she was upset. They had a big fight at the hospital over Emily last time. Why was she back now?noveldrama

Michael quickly realized why. No one could defy Mason. If something happened in the Smith family, Mason's command would bring everyone back, no matter where they were or what they were doing.

Unfortunately, the Smith family was dwindling. Now, only he and Veda were left to answer Mason's call.

"Michael, what's wrong with you? You look so down." Veda approached him with concern, helping him to a seat.

She wore a simple white dress, light makeup, and her hair was neatly tied back, looking more composed than before.

Michael was about to explain to Veda when Mason interrupted, his tone cold. "What else? He just got back from the police station after losing a fight!"

Mason's words shocked everyone except Benjamin. Now Michael understood why Mason had called him back. Someone at the police station had informed Mason about the fight.

No wonder. It was the same old lecture about damaging the family's reputation and being reckless.

Michael had heard it all before and sat down on the sofa, speaking softly to Mason, "Grandpa, you already know."

"A fight?" Veda was incredulous. "Why? Because of Emily? Who did you fight with? Oh

my God! You didn't hit a woman, did you? I know Sophia is hateful, but you didn't have to go that far!"

Michael was even more surprised that Veda knew. He looked at her, seeing her eyes fixed on him.

Mason spoke up again. "I know, and I told Veda. I hadn't finished when you came back."

So that's how it was.

Michael looked at Mason, who still wore a stern expression, his brows furrowed. Michael sighed and recounted what had happened at the police station.

Veda listened, shocked again and again, her mouth agape. "Is there anything more absurd than this? Emerald City police really won't charge Sophia? Your actions were justified. I support you, Michael!"
