Chapter 371 Find Your Own Happiness
Sometimes Emily thought it might be best if she and Michael just called it quits.
After all, it would be best if they could part ways amicably and coexist peacefully.
Like now, with Michael quietly smoking in the passenger seat while she focused on driving. Maybe they could even stay friends in the future, without any need for hostility that would make things uncomfortable for both of them.
Emily even thought that if things could stay this way, she might be able to talk to Michael about the kids... This thought quickly passed, and she began to scold herself internally.
If she was determined to sever ties with the Smith family, why was she entertaining such thoughts?
Just then, a song started playing on the radio.
Both Emily and Michael were very familiar with the melody, to the point where they could hum along.
"Love often drags people along, making the path of love full of twists and turns..."
The song continued, and the streetlights outside the car window flickered by, casting shadows inside the car.
Michael's expression alternated between light and dark as he took a deep drag from his cigarette and then flicked the butt out the window. The smoke swirled around him.
Michael spoke up. "Emily."
There weren't many cars around, and the road was fairly empty. They happened to hit a red light.
Emily stopped the car and turned to look at Michael.
His dark eyes met hers, and Emily felt a pang in her heart.
After a long pause, she heard him say, "I miss you."
And then there was nothing more.
Emily didn't know how to respond to Michael.
So she awkwardly dropped him off at Emerald Lake Manor and then went home. Fortunately, Michael didn't press her for a response.
Given their current awkward relationship, what could he possibly expect her to say?
Emily returned home to find Isabella already asleep. She went to her room and fell into a deep sleep.noveldrama
For the next few days, Michael didn't contact Emily, and she certainly didn't reach out to him.
They each returned to their own lives.
Later, Emily found out from Abigail that Michael had gone abroad.
Apparently, it was for a business trip.
In that moment, Emily felt an emptiness inside her. Once, they had been the closest of people.
But now, she could only learn about Michael's whereabouts from others.
In the meantime, Emily had been at home repairing necklaces. The only time she went
out was to take the piece Leo had bought to JM Jewelry for Penelope to fix. She learned a lot from Penelope during that visit.
Emily improved her skills, and her work progressed smoothly. She went for her scheduled check-up at the hospital, and found that everything was fine with the baby.
This was the life Emily had once dreamed of.
But now that she had it, it didn't seem like much.
One day, Emily received a call from Mason.
She was surprised that Mason would call her.
Emily answered, and Mason invited her to come home for dinner.

Home for dinner? Did that place still count as her home?
But to make Mason happy, Emily agreed to go.
Before leaving, she put on a loose dress, as she was starting to show.
She didn't want Ava or anyone else to notice anything.
Emily didn't want any complications.
She knew she needed to speed up her plans to leave Emerald City with her mother and child.
When she arrived at the Smith Mansion, she brought a lot of food.
Mason was already waiting for her in the living room, and the once lively house now felt quiet.
Emily suddenly understood why Mason had called her back.
"Grandpa, I'm here."
Emily couldn't bring herself to completely cut ties with Mason. After all, during her years at the Smith Mansion, Mason had treated her like his own grandchild.
Seeing Emily, Mason warmly welcomed her and invited her to sit down. They chatted about everyday things, and Emily could tell Mason was happy.
It seemed the house had been quite empty lately, and Mason had been feeling lonely, which was why he called her over.
After a while, Emily couldn't help but ask, "Grandpa, where's Veda? Why isn't she home?"
Mason, pleased to have Emily's company, replied with a smile, "She's at the company. Veda has been working very hard lately."
"With Michael on a business trip, she has to take care of some company matters."

Emily felt relieved and smiled at Mason. He seemed to notice her unease and said, "Emily, don't overthink it. I called you here just to chat, nothing more. I know... you and Michael are over, and I won't force anything... But there is something I wanted to ask you."
Emily nodded and looked at Mason. "Go ahead, Grandpa. No matter what happens between Michael and me, I'll always be your granddaughter."
Mason was delighted to hear this.
He smiled warmly, his tension easing. "I heard you went to the Ward Mansion recently?"
So that's what he wanted to ask.
Emily nodded, watching Mason's expression.
He seemed calm, raising an eyebrow slightly as he continued, "I was just curious. The Smith family and the Ward family aren't on good terms right now, and I didn't want it to affect your work."
"Emily, the Smith family owes you a lot. I don't want that. I hope you and Michael can find your own happiness. So if you have any trouble at work or if the Ward family gives you a hard time, come to me!"
"I'll stand up for you!"
Mason's sincere words touched Emily.
She realized she still had ties to the Smith family.
Even though she and Michael had separated, Mason continued to care for her.
She had been thinking about cutting ties with the Smith family, but maybe that was unnecessary.
So Emily told Mason about her recent work designing a necklace for Leo and mentioned that Leo had a daughter.
Mason's expression changed slightly. "He's still looking for his daughter."
Emily was surprised. "Grandpa, you know about this?"
What do you think?
