Chapter 362 Couldn't Control Themselves

"Emily..." Michael called out softly, like he was afraid she'd disappear if he spoke too loudly.

To his surprise, she answered, "It's me, Michael. How are you? Are you okay?"

Her voice was like a lifeline. Michael closed his eyes, fighting back tears. After what felt like forever, he suddenly stood up and pulled her into his arms.

His breath was heavy, warm air enveloping her. His lips, hot and electric, moved over hers again and again.

Emily wanted to resist, but she found herself inexplicably enjoying it.

She could sense Michael's inner turmoil. He wanted to hold back, but his desire was too strong. They were tangled up in each other.

It was unclear how long the kiss lasted before Michael finally let go of her.

Everything felt off-kilter. Their clothes were still on but wrinkled and disheveled. The room was filled with an air of intimate tension.

Michael looked at Emily again, noticing her swollen lips.

He knew he had been too rough and quickly apologized.

"I'm sorry, I..." Michael trailed off, but his actions spoke louder than words.

Emily couldn't believe these words were coming from Michael. She was stunned and could only manage a few simply responses, unable to form a complete sentence. They couldn't control themselves rationally, so they had to let time help them regain their composure.

It was late at night, and the staff at the Smith Mansion had gone to bed.

The mansion was silent as Michael led Emily out of the room. They walked to the small garden outside and sat on the wooden swing.

This was a rare moment of harmony between them, surprising both Emily and Michael.

"Why did you come?" Michael's mood had improved significantly, largely thanks to Emily.

But Emily didn't know this. She thought Michael was just angry and resistant to Scarlett's actions, maybe even a bit reluctant... She believed he had taken out these emotions on her, using her.noveldrama

But this use was well-intentioned, and Emily was willing.

She wouldn't blame Michael, but she didn't know how to face him.

Emily thought she couldn't tell Michael she came because she was worried about him.

That would be too undignified.

So she used Mason as an excuse.

"I came to see Grandpa, but he was already asleep. I thought I'd check on you. Michael,

we haven't divorced yet. The Smith family is going through a lot. I have the right to be involved, don't I? Or are you saying I can't?"

Why did she sound so hostile?

Michael didn't understand. When had he ever said she couldn't be involved?

If she wanted to be involved, she could. He didn't care.

He'd love for her to be involved forever, but that wasn't realistic.

He had hurt her too deeply to hope for that.

With no other choice, Michael gathered his courage.

After all, they had already kissed. What else was there to fear?

Michael leaned on Emily's shoulder, speaking earnestly before she could react.

"I'm tired, really tired. Just let me lean on you for a bit."

Michael's words softened Emily's heart.

She slowly let down her guard. On that not-too-cold winter night, Emily lent Michael her shoulder, letting him rest for a while.

That night was unforgettable for Emily, though she didn't realize how much Michael cherished and enjoyed it.

She couldn't remember how she fell asleep or how she got back to the master bedroom.

When she woke up, she felt warm, the sunlight streaming through the window, bathing her in comfort and joy.

But Michael was gone.

Emily left the bedroom and ran into Ava.

"Mrs. Smith, you're awake?" Ava said.

Emily scratched her head, embarrassed.

She had only intended to see Michael but ended up sleeping at the Smith Mansion.

Given their impending divorce, it was awkward to be caught like this.

"Yeah, where's Michael?" Emily asked.

Ava smiled, looking pleased.

After all, there had been rumors about Michael and Emily divorcing. But seeing them happy together, holding hands and sitting on the swing last night, she knew better.

She had seen it all when she got up in the night!

And today, Michael had come out of the master bedroom. Clearly, they had reconciled!

"Mr. Smith got a call this morning and left in a hurry. He asked me to make sure you had breakfast."

Ava pointed to the dining room. "Mr. Smith prepared it himself. You should eat while it's hot! Mr. Mason Smith has also gone out, probably for a check-up. You're the only one home. If Benjamin has a meeting, do you want to join in the garden..."

Ava got excited and talked too much, even mentioning the Smith family meetings. These meetings were usually hosted by Mason, or Michael and Veda. Even Scarlett rarely attended. Emily felt a bit awkward being asked to attend.

Seeing Emily's discomfort, Ava quickly stopped.

"Mrs. Smith, please have breakfast! Mr. Smith made it himself. You wouldn't believe it, right?"

Emily felt awkward again.

She was no longer part of the Smith family, but they still treated her like the lady of the house.

Emily didn't want this ambiguous relationship to continue.

She no longer felt she belonged to the Smith family.

And Michael making her breakfast? She didn't believe it. It felt like a formality.

Last night... Last night was just an accident.

Thinking this, Emily hurried downstairs, ate breakfast quickly, and left the Smith Mansion.

She didn't plan to go home but headed straight to the Ward Mansion.

After all, today was the day she had agreed to meet Leo to hand over the necklace.
