Chapter 358 Blurry Memories

After the jewelry exhibition, Emily couldn't stop thinking about what kind of necklaces to design for Leo.

Luckily, Leo had specifically mentioned that the necklaces were for his two granddaughters.

That would be Alice and Luna.

They had lived abroad for many years and had probably seen all kinds of luxurious necklaces. After much thought, Emily decided that the designs had to be particularly special.

As she was sketching in her bedroom, Isabella knocked and walked in.

She brought a plate of fruit and a glass of milk, just like when they were kids, making sure Emily ate and drank before continuing her work.

"What are you working on? You've been in here all night and haven't come out to chat with me."

Isabella had been busy helping to re-establish the company and finally had some free time today. She had hoped to have a heart-to-heart talk with Emily, but Emily was too engrossed in her work.

Isabella hadn't been in the best mood lately, partly because of her own issues and partly because of Emily's marriage.

Emily and Michael had been at a stalemate, and the Smith family had been in chaos since Scarlett left. Ever since they moved away from the house near Emerald Lake Manor, Isabella had lost touch with the Smith family's situation.

She had been wanting to ask Emily about her stance.

Was she going to get a divorce or not?

They might be able to avoid these issues temporarily by immersing themselves in

work, but the baby in Emily's belly was growing and wouldn't wait!

Thinking about this, Isabella couldn't help but glance at Emily's belly.

"Has the baby been behaving lately?"

Hearing this, Emily paused with her drawing hand. She looked down at her belly. The baby had indeed been quiet these past few days, probably because it was almost five months.

In another five months, she would be a mom. Emily felt a strange warmth spread through her chest. It was hard to believe, but she couldn't wait for that day to come.

For this child, Emily had endured a lot, but she didn't regret it. In fact, she cherished

the time she had spent with the baby growing inside her.

Isabella's words reminded Emily that she needed to leave soon.

"No, the baby has been very good. Mom, do you want to feel? You're going to be a grandma soon."

Isabella smiled knowingly.

Yes, she was going to be a grandma soon.

"So, you..." ;Isabella seized the moment to ask.

She wanted to know what Emily thought about the baby and about Michael.

Isabella hesitated, but Emily understood what she was getting at. She looked up at Isabella and responded.

"Mom, I know what you want to ask. I'll finalize the divorce with Michael soon. I'm already taking steps to escape his control. Moving out of Emerald Lake Manor was the first step."

Isabella frowned. "Control? My dear, why do you think Michael is controlling you? Maybe..."

Emily interrupted Isabella again. "Mom, no one knows Michael better than I do. He's a selfish person who always follows his own heart. In the three years we've been together, has he ever considered me even once?"

What else could it be? Love?

She went on, "I'm not an object to be mistreated in his house. Ending this relationship sooner is better. I don't want the child to grow up in an unhappy family."

This was the main reason Emily was eager to divorce Michael.

She was tough on the outside but soft on the inside. She was the one who found it hardest to let go of this relationship.

But honestly, she had had enough of Michael's on-again, off-again treatment.

Michael didn't love her; why did he have to torment her?

Emily had loved Michael, but she realized that love was turning into something twisted, even into hatred.

A mother knows her child best.

Seeing Emily like this, Isabella knew she had made up her mind.

If she wanted a divorce, then so be it. In the end, it would be a relief, just like it had been for Isabella.

Isabella didn't say much more. She shifted her gaze to the sketches. "What are you working on?"

Emily let out a long breath, feeling much relieved, and responded, "I'm designing two necklaces for a very important client."

Isabella couldn't help but gossip, "A male client?"

Emily nodded, not realizing the implication.

Isabella sighed. "Two necklaces, huh? So this male client isn't very faithful, right?"

Emily had to think for a moment before she understood Isabella's implication. Isabella had misunderstood, thinking someone was asking her to design two different necklaces for two different women.

"Mom! What are you thinking?" Emily felt a bit helpless. "This client is an elderly man. The necklaces are for his two granddaughters."

Isabella was taken aback. She had been about to warn Emily to stay away from such a client if he had questionable morals!

She was just worried Emily would be taken advantage of by some guy with bad intentions.

The room fell silent.

Emily focused on her sketches again, suddenly struck by a brilliant idea. She could

design the pendants based on Alice and Luna's personalities.

That way, they would know which necklace belonged to whom at a glance.

It would be meaningful and unique.

Each necklace would have its own charm and highlights. Perfect!

Meanwhile, Isabella's thoughts drifted far away.

She suddenly remembered her own childhood. She had a grandfather too, but not

from the Taylor family. He was her biological grandfather.

Isabella hadn't lost her memory. She remembered she was adopted from an

orphanage by the Taylor family.

It had been decades since then. Her memory had become blurry.

She couldn't remember how she got lost.

So, her memories of her biological parents were almost nonexistent.

If she hadn't gotten lost, would she have had a few more happy years in her

grandfather's arms? Maybe he could have seen her get married, seen Emily grow up...

What about her parents? Had they given up looking for her?

Were they no longer in Emerald City?

Why hadn't they come looking for her all these years?

Thinking about this, Isabella couldn't help but feel heartbroken. She could almost feel

the birthmark on her shoulder burning, making her heart ache.

That feeling of not knowing who she really was.

Isabella blamed Emily for keeping things from her, but wasn't she doing the same?
