The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 345 Like Strangers

Seeing Emily speak so confidently, Daniel felt reassured.

He smiled and nodded, then said, "Let me walk you out."

Emily didn't refuse Daniel this time. She wanted to follow her own heart and no longer wanted to avoid things for Veda's sake or the Smith family's dignity. Since Mason was well aware that the Smith family owed her, why should she lower her head anymore?

She hadn't done anything wrong. She was even carrying the Smith family's child. "Watch your step," Daniel said, keeping a respectful distance, afraid she might reject his help.

Emily nodded, placing her slender hand on the railing as she headed towards the hospital's main entrance. A bright beam of sunlight hit her face, and just as she was about to look up, she met a familiar pair of eyes.

The calmness on Emily's face vanished instantly. "Michael?"

Daniel was also caught off guard and quickly stepped to Emily's side. "Why are you out of bed?"

Emily noticed Michael was in casual clothes, but she could still see the unkempt collar of his hospital gown peeking out. She guessed he had just come back from the company. Veda couldn't handle the entire Smith Corporation alone, so Michael had to juggle his recovery with work. She knew he was struggling.

She wanted to show concern but didn't know how to start. Emily stood there, frozen, her attention fully on Michael. He didn't even glance at her, only looking at Daniel with a raised eyebrow, speaking nonchalantly, "What? You're not my attending physician, do you have to manage everything?"

"I..."

Michael's tone wasn't exactly polite, but it had a hint of teasing, which left Daniel momentarily stunned, unsure how to respond.

As her gaze lowered, Emily noticed Michael's slightly pale lips. He must not have rested well. She didn't even have time to greet him before Michael walked past her without a word.

Why was he acting like this all of a sudden? Emily couldn't understand. Just a few days ago, he had saved her. But then she realized, maybe he felt she had burdened him. Saving her had also delayed the company's projects. Why would he want to be involved with such a troublesome woman?

Thinking of this, Emily clenched the strap of her bag tightly. At that moment, she felt utterly hopeless. Michael's cold attitude pierced her heart, causing indescribable pain. But what could she do? She could only stand there quietly, feeling frustrated and lost.

Emily couldn't help but think that, while it was a pity to give up, holding on was meaningless.

'Why would Emily come to the hospital? It cann't be to see him,' Michael thought as he walked back to his room like a zombie. She must be here to see her grandfather. Or maybe for her stomach issues. Speaking of which, Michael hadn't felt his stomach churning recently. He could sense Emily's cravings for sour food, and when he had no appetite, he knew she didn't either. At that time, Michael would worry if something was wrong and ask Abigail.

Unable to get answers from Abigail, Michael could only guess. It was then he realized, despite wanting to ignore Emily and be cold to her, he would always care for Emily; that was an unchangeable fact. Thinking of this, Michael felt a deep, painful ache in his heart.noveldrama

After leaving the hospital, Emily headed to the Brown Villa. She had heard the rumors; the villa was in chaos, and Hayden had sent Evelyn and her daughter away. One to the police station, the other abroad. Hayden was left alone, reaping what he had sown.

Though Isabella hadn't said anything, Emily decided to visit the Brown Villa, not for any particular reason, just to follow her heart. Besides, she was about to sever ties with the Smith family and leave Emerald City. Before that, she needed to settle things with her biological father.

The housekeeper informed her, "Ms. Brown, your slippers have been..."

'Thrown away,' Emily guessed, seeing the housekeeper's hesitation. She wasn't surprised; it was something Evelyn and her daughter would do. "It's fine, I won't change."

She walked in with her shoes on, knowing it would be her last time stepping into the Brown Villa. Emily went upstairs to her bedroom, only to be greeted by a cloud of dust. Evelyn and her daughter had turned her room into a storage space, filling it with unwanted items, leaving no place to stand.

But Emily didn't get angry. She wasn't living there anymore and was about to leave. Evelyn and her daughter had received their punishment, so why bother with them?

Taking a deep breath, Emily stepped out. Just then, Hayden emerged from his room, reeking of alcohol and looking despondent. Emily watched for a moment, sighed, and said, "Drinking won't solve anything."

Hayden was surprised to see Emily but didn't know why she was there. He couldn't bring himself to ask, so he just shrugged and replied, "What problems do I have to solve?"

With that, he headed downstairs. As he passed Emily, she caught a strong whiff of alcohol and quickly covered her nose. She had just overcome her pregnancy nausea and didn't want to go through that again.

After a few seconds, Emily followed Hayden downstairs. She had come to see him and bring the transfer contract for the branch company. Once signed, Hayden would be officially separated from her and her mother.

But how could Hayden, once the chairman of Brown Corporation, now accept being a branch manager?
