Chapter 338 Home Invasion
Michael could hardly believe his ears.
Was this guy really picking a fight with him? How could he ask such a question?
Just as Michael was about to snap back, Daniel continued, his tone righteous. "Michael,
I'm not asking as one of Emily's suitors, but as a friend. I can't stand seeing her so
upset anymore. Do you know she fainted again today?"noveldrama
Hearing this, Michael's annoyance turned to shock.
He looked at Daniel, his pupils narrowing. "Look at you, acting all concerned, but you're just deceiving Emily over and over again."
Daniel's voice was filled with anger and sarcasm.
He wasn't afraid of Michael getting mad and taking a swing at him. In fact, he welcomed it; it would give him a chance to vent his frustration on behalf of Emily.
"Her health... her health can't take this anymore. But you, your mom, the whole Smith family, and the Browns, you all seem like you want her dead!
"She can take care of herself now. She could have a better life. Why do you keep holding onto her, Michael? For the sake of the three years you were married, let her go. She loves you, but she can't afford to love you anymore."
Daniel's words hit Michael like a ton of bricks.
Each word landed heavily, making Michael feel ashamed and guilty. He clenched his fists and said to Daniel, "Even so, I need to hear it from her directly. Whether she can afford to love me or not is none of your business."
Daniel knew it wasn't his business.
But he was furious, and his anger had nowhere to go, so it turned into a burning glare aimed at Michael. Yet, Michael's determined and hopeful gaze seemed to reflect back at him.
There was nothing he could do; Michael and Emily were legally married.
Before they divorced, they were still husband and wife.
Daniel had to let Michael handle it. "I've said what I needed to say. How you deal with it is up to you two. I'm leaving."
As Daniel brushed past Michael, he suddenly remembered something and turned back. "She just had two bottles of glucose. I helped her to her bedroom because no one else was home. I tried contacting Abigail and Veda, but couldn't reach them, so... "Don't get the wrong idea, and don't take it out on her. She might already be asleep. Come back later."
Michael's eyes were unreadable. He didn't turn around, just replied indifferently, "I got it."
After Daniel left, Michael stood at the entrance of the Taylor Villa for a long time, an indeterminate amount of time.
There were already seven or eight cigarette butts scattered at his feet. He wanted to wait for Emily to wake up, for some movement in the house, or for the lights to come on at dusk before knocking on the door.
Michael didn't want to disturb Emily's rest, and he didn't know how to explain everything to her.
Despite his dislike for Daniel, Michael knew he was right.
Everyone thought Emily had married up by joining the Smith family, gaining honor and prestige. But only Michael knew the Smith family was a deep, dark whirlpool.
From the moment Emily stepped in, not just him, but Scarlett, Veda, the opportunistic servants, and even Mason, who seemed kind to Emily, were all morally blackmailing her.
Emily never had a single comfortable day in the Smith family. She had to bear everyone's scorn and fulfill the duties of Michael's wife, all because Michael didn't want to let her go, without considering if she could handle it.
"She can't afford to love anymore."
Remembering Daniel's words, Michael felt a deep sense of guilt.
He exhaled a puff of smoke, the haze drifting past his deeply furrowed brow. Then he lowered his head, bit his lip, and slowly turned towards the door.
"I have to face it," Michael told himself.
His steps were heavy, as if each one carried a thousand pounds. It took him a minute to slowly reach the front door.

He remembered Daniel's advice.
He didn't knock right away but leaned in to listen for any sounds inside.
At that moment, Michael felt a surge of nervousness. He lowered his head, clenched
his fists, the veins on the back of his hands bulging as he tried to suppress his guilt.
Suddenly, he heard a piercing scream from inside.
"How did you get in here? Get out!"
He didn't mishear; it was Emily's voice. There was someone else in the house!
That couldn't be right. After Daniel left, Emily should have been alone. So who else could be in the Taylor Villa?
Could someone have been hiding in Emily's house all along?
The thought made Michael's heart race, and he broke out in goosebumps.
He couldn't wait any longer. He kicked the door open and rushed into the Taylor Villa, heading upstairs.
Meanwhile, Evelyn, with disheveled hair, was acting like a madwoman.
She was grinning wickedly, holding a knife, and charging at Emily, who was lying in
bed. Emily, who had been in a drowsy state, heard footsteps and thought Daniel hadn't
left. She wanted to thank him and see him off before going back to sleep.
But when she forced herself to open her eyes, she saw Evelyn's twisted face. Emily was terrified.
This was her home. How did Evelyn get in?

Why wouldn't these people leave her alone?
What had she done wrong?
In a moment of emotional collapse, Emily screamed and grabbed her phone to throw
at Evelyn.
Evelyn dodged but stumbled and fell.
But she didn't care. She got up again, and Emily threw a pillow at her, followed by an
empty water glass from the nightstand.
Emily was using all her strength, terrified and with her mind blank.
Evelyn wasn't afraid.
She came here to kill, whether it was Isabella or Emily.
As long as one of them died, her and Sophia's lives would be much easier.
Thinking of this, Evelyn screamed at Emily like a maniac.
Emily had always survived by sheer luck! Evelyn couldn't believe that God would favor
this illegitimate child, saving her time and again.
Now the house was in chaos, Sophia was crying and screaming for Michael, and Hayden had gone out to find help but hadn't returned, not even answering his phone.
The front yard was swarming with reporters, cameras rolling, talking about Sophia's plagiarism and Hayden's company's tax issues.
Evelyn, who dreamed of wealth every day, couldn't stand this.
A perfectly good home was ruined by Emily and her mother.
Of course, she wanted revenge. The worst outcome would be everyone dying together.
What do you think?
