Chapter 299 Investigation
Upon hearing this, Michael suddenly had a bad premonition.
Michael trusted Andrew's judgment. After all, Andrew had been with him for so long,
and he wouldn't call to report something unless he was certain about it.
So the problem must lie with those paintings in the art department.
How could those paintings be so similar to Emily's work?
Emily had worked at Smith Corporation, but she had only been in the secretary department for a few days. Even during the days Michael was hospitalized, he had reviewed all of Emily's work reports.
Michael was sure that Emily had never interfered with the art department's work. She was even afraid of getting too involved, fearing it would cause misunderstandings. But now, how could this be?
The more he thought about it, the more something felt off. Michael ordered Andrew to investigate and hung up the phone, feeling increasingly suspicious.
The next morning, Andrew followed Michael's instructions and went to the art department to investigate secretly.
He went alone, dressed casually, as it was almost work time and he didn't want to
alarm anyone. If someone was indeed behind this, drawing attention to himself would be like alerting the enemy.noveldrama
Plagiarism was no small matter.
Even if it was Emily's work being plagiarized, it was unacceptable.
These were Michael's exact words, and Andrew kept them in mind.
The art department's archives were mostly on one computer. Every detail was meticulously recorded: whose work it was, when it was saved, the purpose behind it, and when it was used or discarded.
So Andrew only needed to check that one computer to find some clues.
But unexpectedly, something happened.
As soon as Andrew turned on the computer, he heard the door to the art department open. He looked up and saw that it was only seven in the morning.
"There's still an hour before work starts, Nola. What are you doing here?"
Nola had planned to sneak into the art department to change her clothes without anyone seeing her in her disheveled state. But as soon as she stepped in, Andrew caught her.
Nola was startled and quickly took a few steps back. Seeing Andrew sitting at her workstation, she widened her eyes and rushed forward, pushing him away.
"Andrew? What are you doing at my workstation so early in the morning? Are you trying to steal something? Or tamper with my work? You have ulterior motives!"
Nola shouted, completely ignoring the fact that she was only wearing a thin, revealing black dress, with cheap black stockings that could tear easily, and worn-out silver high heels.
Such an outfit was completely different from her usual image of a high-achieving student with a wealthy boyfriend and a happy family.
They were all colleagues, so there was nothing to hide.
Andrew also noticed the stark contrast between Nola's outfit and her usual image.
But he was tactful and only glanced briefly before looking away. Then he said to Nola,
"Tamper with your work? I'm not in the art department, nor am I your competitor. I'm not interested in your work."
"Then what are you doing?" Nola's face showed a hint of shame at being caught. She was angry and aggressive, not realizing the seriousness of the situation.
"I'm just following Mr. Smith's orders to investigate something. Nola, I'm confiscating your computer.
"Also, coming to work early should be commended, but dressing like this damages the company's image. I'll report this to Mr. Smith and advise you to be more mindful. After all, as a woman, maintaining your image is important."

Indeed, like master, like servant. Nola was surprised that even though she and Andrew didn't usually talk much, his words could be so cutting when they did.
He was just like Michael.
If it weren't for Michael's money, Sophia wouldn't have used all her tricks on him! Right! Sophia!
Thinking of her colleague and backer, Sophia, Nola immediately regained her confidence.
She sneered coldly, glaring at Andrew with arrogance.
Seeing Andrew about to take her computer, she quickly raised her chin and blocked his way like a shrew.
"Andrew, we're both just employees. Let's not make things difficult for each other!"
Andrew didn't want to waste time arguing with Nola. After all, finding out the truth was his main task.
"I'm not making things difficult for you. I'm just doing my job."
With that, Andrew prepared to leave. Nola, seeing this, got angry and pushed Andrew.
If he hadn't dodged quickly, he might have hurt his waist on the desk corner.
Nola's sharp, loud voice rang out again. "Andrew, you're just Mr. Smith's assistant! Do you really think you're that important?
"I'm telling you, my computer contains the hard work of everyone in the art department. If you take it and something goes missing or gets added, I won't be able
to explain it. Don't blame me for accusing you!"
Andrew had come early to avoid this situation.
But since Nola insisted on making a scene, he wasn't afraid.

After all, this was Michael's order, and anyone who defied it would be asking for trouble.
"Then go ahead, gather everyone in the art department and bring them to the secretary's office to confront me. But before that, I suggest you change your clothes," Andrew said.
He deliberately dragged out his words, then leaned closer to Nola, his tone mocking and indifferent. "Don't embarrass Smith Corporation."
With that, Andrew brushed past her and left.
Nola, feeling humiliated and unable to fight back, decided to bring up Sophia.
'Sophia is the future Mrs. President! Let's see if Andrew dares to defy her!' she thought smugly.
"You think you're doing well at Smith Corporation because of Mr. Smith, and you boast about it. But do you really think you can show off in front of me? I'm warning you, Andrew, Sophia and I are best friends. If you keep bullying me, and Sophia tells Mr. Smith, you'll be in trouble!"
Nola's red lips parted, her eyebrows raised, her voice still sharp and loud.
But to Andrew, it sounded ridiculous and laughable.
Sophia?
How long had it been since he heard that name?
She dared to speak ill of him in front of Michael?
"I've been with Mr. Smith for many years, and I have that confidence, Nola. But you, you should spend some time online. Sophia? How long has she been down and out?
"And stop hanging out in nightclubs and bars, trying to deceive a rich person. People are already starting to come to work in the building, and the cleaning staff loves to gossip. You..."
Andrew paused, his mocking gaze finally landing on Nola. "Be careful."
What do you think?
