Chapter 252
The voice made Gregory inexplicably feel a tinge of fear, "Yeyes, this is Gregory" He cleared his throat, trying to keep his rone as normal as possible. But inside, he was panicking
Who could this be, calling him with such a tone at a time like this? A business partner? No way that wasn't possible anymore. He didn't have any partners left.
Could it be someone coming to collect debts? But it wasn't time for repayments yet.
While Gregory was overthinking, the man on the other end spoke again.
"Hello, I'm Mr. Byron Beaumont's assistant"
Byron Beaumont?" Gregory froze, searching his memory for the name. Suddenly, he was shocked, "From Harrowfell?"
Yes, that's correct. I'm Byron's assistant, and my last
name is also Beaumont." The calm and steady voice reached Gregory's ears, making his heart pound.
Byron's assistant calling him? Gregory's mind went blank, completely stunned.
Thanks to Paisley, he had coincidentally
met Dominick, which was already something he couldn't have dreamed
of before. For someone like Gregory, it was unimaginable to even come close to the Vanderbilt family.
After all, the Sullivans had no chance of even
stepping into the Vanderbilt family's circle. Yet even Dominick was just a younger member of the Vanderbilt family. Gregory had never even dreamed of meeting someone like Paul. And now, Byron Beaumont's assistant was calling him personally? In Harrowfell, the Beaumont and Vanderbilt families were equals-
two of the most powerful clans. Thinking of this, Gregory's knees started to feel weak. He had to grab onto something nearby to steady himself, and his voice softened.
"May I ask what this is about?" he asked.
Sensing Gregory's overly fawning tone, Dylan Beaumont's voice grew colder. "Twenty-
five years ago, did you adopt a three-year-old girl from Angel Orphanage?"
Gregory was utterly stunned by the question. Could this call be about Brittany? Gregory hesitated to answer, and Dylan's displeasure became evident. "Mr. Sullivan, did you hear my question?"
"Y-
yes, I heard!" Gregory nodded repeatedly, his submissive tone a stark contrast to his earlier aggression toward Christina.
After a moment's thought, he said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Beaumont. The adoption process was handled by my wife. I only signed the paperwork, so I'm not sure which orphanage it was. Please hold on. I'll ask my wife."
After receiving a clearly impatient reply, Gregory quickly turned to Christina, who was still crying over Brittany.
"Calm down and listen to me. Back then, when you adopted Brittany, was it from Angel Orphanage?"
Hearing this, Christina nodded. "Yes, why? What's going on? What happened to Brittany?"
Christina became visibly agitated whenever Brittany was mentioned. After confirming the details, Gregory ignored Christina and resumed the call.
"Mr. Beaumont, I've confirmed it. Yes, twenty-
five years ago, my wife and I adopted our daughter Brittany from Angel Orphanage.
Christina,
still unaware of what was happening, assumed Gregory was refusing to help Brittany because she was adopted. "Honey! I'm telling you, Brittany is not our adopted daughter!"
"Shut up!" Gregory had no patience for Christina's outbursts and moved to another spot to continue the call.
"Wait, did I just hear your wife say someone isn't your adopted daughter?" Dylan caught Christina's comment right away.
Gregory hurriedly explained, "No, you misunderstood. Brittany is our adopted daughter, but we've always
treated her as if she were our biological child."
"Alright." The assistant wasn't suspicious and continued, "In that case, please bring your adopted daughter to meet our master tomorrow at 10 a.m."
"What?" Gregory's mind began piecing things together, but he still asked, "Why?"
"We suspect that your adopted daughter is actually Mr. Byron Beaumont's long-lost niece."
"W-what? His niece?" Gregory's voice shot up several octaves.
He was struggling to process this revelation. What did it mean for Brittany to be Byron's biological niece?
Gregory didn't know much about the Beaumont family's current structure, but if it were compared to the Vanderbilt family-
Paul's niece, who was Paul's son's sister, was technically Dominick's aunt.
If Brittany really was Byron's lost niece, then the Beaumont family's young generation would have to address her as "Aunt," which would give her an extremely high status.
Gregory's legs turned weak, and he stumbled back onto the sofa. Christina didn't know what was said on the phone, but seeing Gregory like this, she assumed he had just suffered a major blow. Her heart sank into despair. She thought that, even if Gregory now knew Brittany was his biological daughter, there might still be no way to save her.
"It's still uncertain. We can only confirm once we meet in person," came the cold, businesslike voice of Dylan over the phone.
Gregory understood-
it was a reminder not to get too excited yet, as nothing was confirmed. These kinds of matters always required a paternity test before being finalized. "Alright, I understand," Gregory replied.
"Good. I'll send the meeting location to your phone shortly. Please be there tomorrow at 10 a.m. sharp." With that, the call ended abruptly, leaving no room for Gregory to respond.
The call left Gregory's head buzzing. Only after it ended did he realize Brittany was still being held at the police station. How was he going to bring her there tomorrow?
"Honey, who was that? Were they asking about Brittany? What happened?" Christina asked anxiously.
Gregory excitedly grabbed Christina's hands. "We've made it! We're about to hit the jackpot!"
Christina was completely confused, but Gregory's expression seemed genuine. "What's going on?"
"It's the Beaumont family! Brittany might be part of the Beaumont family! She might be Byron's niece!"
Gregory excitedly recounted every detail of the call with Dylan. After hearing it, Christina stood there in a daze, lost in thought.
Gregory assumed she was stunned with joy and remembered that Christina had seemed to want
to tell him something about Brittany before the call came in.
"By the way, what were you saying earlier? Brittany is what?" he asked.noveldrama
Christina snapped out of her thoughts as Gregory nudged her. Taking a deep breath, she resolutely said, "Oh, nothing. I just wanted to say that we've raised Brittany as our own daughter for so many years. We can't just abandon her like that." Yes, Brittany was adopted. Paisley is my biological daughter,' Christina convinced herself.
What do you think?
