She Accepted Divorce, He Panicked

254 The Most Unlikely

What?!

All happened too fast and Scar is not even coming around. Her body is moving before her mind catches up. Her legs could barely keep up with his pace. All she knows is, that Sebastian is holding her hands tight in his palm, his palm warm and firm. "Careful!" Sebastian kicks open the back door of the warehouse, blocking the rebound of the door as he shouts at Scar, "This way!"

They turn left right after they dash out of the door even though the door is open to a huge yard.

Why? They might have guns? Scar finds it funny that her brain is full of a bunch of useless nonsense, but it can't process what's going on or what to do next when she tries.

"Do you think you can climb over the wall if I get you on my shoulder? Scar?!"

It's only when Sebastian's shout pulls her flowing mind back that she realizes he already led her down to the wall of the yard. She can't. The wall is over four meters. Even a ninja couldn't climb over a smooth concete wall like this.

"I can't! I'm sorry!" Scar blurts, almost in tears. The rapid run finally leads out the panic stuffing in her chest. If she hadn't been afraid before because the danger hadn't landed yet, it has caught up with her after the chase. "It's okay, this way!" Sebastian pushes her into a door on the left side of the yard.

They are in an abandoned plant of some sort. A huge machine in the middle of the room with a long assembly line attached to it. Deserted. Broken parts and furniture lying around them.

"Watch your feet," Sebastian warns as they walk deeper into the stomach of the room, "We can't turn on the light, even if it's still working--"

He turns around, his eyes land on her bare feet, then he cocks his eyebrows.

Scar shoots a glare at him. Did he really think she could keep up with him wearing those high, slim heels?! She lost them only a few steps in!

"I'm sorry," He says. He takes a step closer, only to pause and hesitate. But then with a determined look, he closes the distance between them before he picks her up into his arms, "...sorry, but this is safer... bear it with me?" His voice gets lower as he speaks. He keeps his eyes low and away from hers. He said it as a question, but he turned his face to the other side as if he was... afraid of her answer.

He is helping her, yet all he thinks is how she hates his touch. Scar has never seen Sebastian Knight, the man above everyone, the king of the city, feeling so inferior. It almost makes him look...fragile. "You...they really are not your people?" Scar blurts a mumble.

"My people?" Sebastian frowns with confusion as he puts Scar down in a covert corner in a small room -- or, closest, "Who--?!"

Finally understanding what Scar meant, Sebastian lets out a resigned huff, flicking Scar's forehead with a finger but only lightly: "Is that how you see me? A despicable who would put you in such danger just to play the hero?!" "Because YOU acted super suspicious!" Scar covers her forehead with a guilty pout, "You came to rescue people and you had no weapon and no police?! Not to mention, why did you even follow me?!"

How could he tell her that he

Thinking it was too small a thing to mention to her, he followed her just so he could make sure it was nothing, only to witness the whole thing happen.

"I watched them crashing into your car and I almost lost you on the twisting way over, when am I

supposed to go find a weapon?!" et

The man rolls his eyes, half resigned half amused, "I was worried ift get there a second later, I'll find you

crying on the floor, NAKED"

Scar shoots him a death stare at the last word. She was going to taunt him that she almost had the situation under control before he barged in, but hearing his words, cold sweat broke on her back when she realized how naive she was. What he said could well have happened.

The suspicion of those people being

sent by Sebastian evaporated her fear, but now it's back, and it came back even colder. She thought the worst scenario was to lose the documents, which wouldn't be the end of the world because sending Avain for a year wasn't her plan anyway. She totally forgot that if Jack Fuller sent those men, they wouldn't care if she got hurt in the process.

"Now I wish you WERE the one who sent them..." Scar mumbles, curling up when fear catches her.

At least that's safer.

Why would she think that's safer? Scar opens her eyes wider at that out-of-nowhere thought. Does she...still trust him to be a good man?noveldrama

"It's okay, I'll protect you. I won't let them--" Seeing her furrowed eyebrows, Sebastian comforts her in a gentle voice, only to pause when a huge bang blows out of the little closest, "Shh, they are here!"
