Secrets Of The Neglected Wife

Chapter 776

Chapter 776:

Inside, the guests couldn’t stop whispering about them. But Verruckt seemed unfazed by the attention.

Verruckt took a glass of wine from a passing waiter and handed it to Allison. “Relax. They’re staring because you look incredible tonight. But be careful — you can’t trust anyone here.”

“Got it,” Allison said, giving a small nod. “I’ll go look for Mrs. Blake.”

But Verruckt stopped her by grabbing her wrist. “Alice, you forgot something.”

He casually placed a small hairpin-like accessory into her hair. As they moved closer, it might’ve seemed to the onlookers that they were sharing a private moment. But Verruckt’s voice was cold as he spoke. “In an emergency, this could be used as a weapon to protect yourself.”

“Understood.” Allison adjusted the hairpin carefully. It was clear that tonight wouldn’t be without its dangers. Once Verruckt walked away, Allison intended to look for someone nearby.

Noticing his absence, a few people started to murmur.

“Is that Verruckt’s date?”

“Yeah, it is. I can’t believe anyone would have the nerve to show up at the Immortality Group banquet with that kind of background.”

“Maybe she’s just some clueless country girl.”noveldrama

“Come on, everyone knows Fiona from the Immortality Group has been chasing after Verruckt for years. Unless, of course, she’s really out of place here.”

Allison hadn’t expected anyone to have feelings for Verruckt. Trying not to attract attention, she quietly swirled her wine and slipped toward a corner. But sometimes, no matter how hard you try to stay out of sight, trouble has a way of finding you.

Before long, the doors to the banquet hall swung open again. A group of attendants escorted a young woman as she elegantly stepped into the room. Allison glanced up and saw a flash of purple fabric moving through the crowd.

Allison glanced briefly at the woman in the purple dress before quickly losing interest. Though the woman appeared to be the most distinguished guest in the room, Allison could tell right away that she wasn’t Mollie.

Lost in thought, Allison barely noticed the woman with long hair approaching. With an air of superiority, Fiona Smith cast a condescending look at Allison and then remarked, her voice dripping with disdain, “So, you’re Mr. Shaw’s companion, huh?” As she spoke, her eyes scanned Allison from head to toe. “You don’t look familiar. Where exactly are you from?”

Allison answered coolly, her voice calm and composed, “The Stuart family.” This was the identity that Verruckt had arranged for her, a family in ruin, but it was still a name she would stand by.

Fiona and the women behind her exchanged knowing glances, barely containing their laughter. They whispered amongst themselves, clearly amused. “Oh, so you’re from that family, the one that went bankrupt not too long ago,” Fiona sneered.
