Chapter 600
Chapter 600:
The whispers and murmurs of the crowd only fueled Melany’s distress, and she fought back tears.
“Mr. Barker, you really shouldn’t get involved…” she said in a shaky voice, knowing that the more pitiful she became, the more Santino’s protective instincts would flare up.
“Shut your mouths, all of you! What’s so great about picking on a woman like this?!” he yelled, moving even closer to her, his confidence swelling with every word.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got this covered!” he assured her, swelling with false bravado.
He pointed in Allison’s direction, raising his voice. “You say she owes you money? Show me the debt note, and I’ll pay it!”
Rebecca couldn’t help herself and burst out laughing, leaning into Allison.
“Sweetheart, did you hear that?” she teased. “Can you believe some people are eager to make a fool of themselves?” She clapped her hands as if applauding Santino’s stupidity. “For your boldness, you certainly deserve applause.”
The crowd, who had been watching this unfold, exchanged glances and clicked their tongues in disbelief.
“Mr. Barker, we’re only telling you this for your own good. If you insist on helping this woman, you’re just going to make things bad for yourself!”
Santino’s face darkened as he struggled to keep his cool.
“What? You think I can’t handle a woman?” he spat.
He flaunted his gold ring, shaking his hand as if to dismiss the warnings.
“Let me make one thing clear,” Santino boomed, puffing out his chest with arrogance. “Here in Sunset Hill, I call the shots!” He truly believed himself to be a king, ruling over his territory. The onlookers shook their heads in disbelief, knowing all too well how this would end.
Allison, unbothered by his bluster, shot back sarcastically, “I wasn’t aware that Sunset Hill was your kingdom.”
It seemed that Allison had been out of the game for quite a while. Now, everyone seemed eager to act as if they ran things. Santino, with a dismissive wave of his hand and a smug glint in his eye, radiated arrogance.
“People like you wouldn’t know, but my uncle is the one who runs this place!” he said, finishing with a sneer. “Enough talking! Hand over the bill, and once you’ve got the money, get out of here!”
He assumed a woman couldn’t owe a huge debt; at most, maybe tens of thousands. He could cover that easily.
But Allison’s next words shattered his assumptions. “All right, since Muisvedo is likely concerned about this too,” she replied smoothly. She pulled out her phone, jotting down the contact for the infamous underground casino. “Her husband’s debt is tens of millions. You can reach out to the staff and take care of it now.”
Santino’s face turned pale, her words hitting him like a clap of thunder. He was so shocked that his mouth hung open, his mind reeling.
“How… how much? Tens of millions?” he stammered, unable to process the magnitude of her words.
