Rewriting My Heart's Fate

Chapter 540

"U-Um, we..." I stammered, unsure of how to respond.

Madison was quick to help me continue the conversation.

"Mr. Albright, to be honest, we're here to ask you about your business plans for the future. We heard that you frequent Welton Avenue lately. Are you going to invest in some kind of huge project? Can you tell us a thing or two about it?"

I suddenly realized how Madison managed to become one of the most powerful figures in the dark web. She wasn't just a brutal psychopath, but she was also really quick-witted.

Murphy let out a cold laugh. "Finally, you stop beating around the bush. Indeed, I have my plans, but they're confidential. I can't disclose anything about them."

On second thought, he said, "Besides, why should I tell you two about my plans? You two are just reporters from a puny magazine company. Do you really think you're worthy enough of finding out about my plans?"

His scornful and derogatory remarks pissed me and Madison off, but we didn't talk back.noveldrama

Madison and I could only suppress our anger and forced ourselves to smile despite his insults.

"You're right, Mr. Albright. We overstepped our boundaries." My jaw was tense from anger when I spoke. I said, "We're truly grateful that you agreed to this interview. Shall we talk about something else?"

"Suits you," Murphy answered absent-mindedly as he leaned backwards on the couch. He looked as if he wasn't interested in answering questions.

Seeing this, I knew that Madison and I would leave empty-handed if things carried on like this. So, I decided to take the risk and ask him, "Mr. Albright, we'd also like to know what Kieran Jaeger is up to lately."

My eyes never left Murphy's face when I told him that, and I noticed that his flippant expression turned a little tense at the mention of the name. His gaze turned unusually sharp too.

However, he regained his composure in just a second. In a calm and composed manner, he said, "I think I've heard that name somewhere before this, but I don't remember who that person is. Why are you bringing him up suddenly?"

"You two did business together, after all," said Madison. She gave him a meaningful look as she said, "Besides, we're investigating a huge case about him. He's missing now. Mr. Albright, do you perhaps just so happen to know where he's gone to?"

Murphy's face fell at the question. It was obvious enough that Madison had hit the mark.

Even so, he pretended not to know a single thing about it. "I have no idea where he's gone. Just who are you people? Are you two really

reporters? Why do you keep asking me nonsensical questions?"

I dug out the press pass from my pocket and showed it to him. "Of course, we're reporters. This is our pass press."

Murphy stared at the pass for a while, his expression shifting a few times as if he was contemplating something.

Suddenly, he shot up from the couch, hitting the table with his hand as he did so.

He hollered, "That's it! I don't care who you are. Stop thinking you can

get a formation out of me! Get

lost, or I'll make you regret coming to my manor!"

Madison was taken by surprise by his sudden outburst, but she quickly calmed down and slowly got up from her seat.

"Mr. Albright, we're sorry for being a nuisance to you," I said. At the same time, I unobtrusively shot Madison a look.

I told him, "We'll take our leave. But we'll still look into Kieran's case. If we somehow discover that you're involved in it... "

My voice faltered as Madison and I headed to the door. Then, we heard Murphy roaring angrily behind us. "Stop! Stop right there, you two!" he yelled after us.

However, we ignored him and

quickened our footsteps. We then got into our van and stepped hard on the gas pedal. After we zoomed off and away from the manor, we finally got to sigh in relief.

"How was it? Did you find anything useful when we were there?" I asked Madison.

"Yeah." Madison nodded, her face grim. She explained, "From Murphy's response, we can be sure that he

must know something about Kieran's disappearance."

She added, "Murphy panicked when we mentioned Kieran."
