Chapter 174 No She Can't
With Eric's assurance, my parents no longer hesitated. They called the company's secretary right in front of me. Just like that, I landed a standard nine-to-five job.
Starting next money, I'd be joining Team 2 of the Business Department.
As Dad arranged for me to enter the company, Elsa tugged on Jack's sleeve as if trying to say something. I watched their interaction coldly. The next second, both Jack and Elsa turned to Dad at the same time.
"Dad," Jack said earnestly, sounding nothing like the aggressive man he had been earlier. "Since Jane is joining the company, why not let Elsa join too? Just a basic position would do."
I sneered. As expected, they would never miss a chance to stir up trouble.
Dad frowned and remained silent for a long moment. I knew he was wavering.
Thinking back to my past life, I remembered how many company secrets Elsa had stolen and sold during her time at Brown Group.
I stepped forward and said firmly, "No, she can't."
Jack immediately frowned and retorted, "Why not? Are you really going to stop Elsa from joining the company just because of what I said earlier? You're being way too petty!"
At his words, Elsa lowered her head in feigned grievance, waving her hand weakly. "Jack, don't make things difficult for Jane. I guess I'm just not lucky enough to be a part of our family business," she murmured.
Before she could finish her act, I let out a cold chuckle. "You're right about the luck part. But the real reason you're not getting in is because of your incompetence."
Elsa's head snapped up pitifully. Just as she was about to say something, I cut her off once more. "Tell me-am I wrong?"
This time, I didn't look at Elsa but stared Jack in the eye instead. "Other than design, what does she even know? Do her skills align with the company's design department? And you want to place her there just like that?
"At the very least, I don't show up at the company every day, so most of our employees don't even know my identity. I can work my way up from an entry-level position. But her? She's been running to the company to see you every chance she gets. Even the pests living in the sewers know she's your dim-witted little sister. Who would accept a blatant case of nepotism like that?"
After finishing, I turned to Dad. "Besides, she's still working for Cornell Group. She's so close to Jeremiah. Who knows when she might spill our company's secrets? What do you think, Dad?"
Dad remained deep in thought. When he finally spoke, he looked at Elsa with an apologetic expression.
"Elsa, since you're still working at Cornell Group, why don't you focus on learning there first? You can pick up some valuable management skills and share them with Jack and Jane later."
The disappointment on Elsa's face was unmistakable.
Dad's words had effectively shut down all her chances of joining Brown Group for good.
Her expression caused Jack great heartache. He wanted to try a little harder to help her get that opportunity.
But the next moment, Mom interjected, "Dinner's ready! Let's stop talking about work for now. It's rare for our family to be together. Why waste the time discussing business?"
Dad immediately followed suit. "She's right. No more work talk for now. There's plenty of time for that in the office."noveldrama
With that, he took Mom's hand and headed toward the dining room together.
Eric and I exchanged a glance. We ignored the two stunned figures frozen in place as we followed my parents.
Just as I turned, I felt a burning gaze on my back. It was sharp and menacing. As I looked over my shoulder, I saw Elsa glaring at me with pure jealousy and resentment. Her expression was as vicious as a snake eyeing its prey.
I gave her a calm, indifferent smile before turning away.
It didn't matter. If she was a venomous snake, I simply had to... exterminate her.
What do you think?
