Chapter 160 The Best Thank You

I didn't get back to the hospital until after midnight as a pile of design drafts weighed me down. When I pushed open the door to the ward, Eric was staring at me intensely.

I froze for a moment, then smiled as I walked over. "What's this? You're awake? I thought you'd be asleep."

Eric looked at me, his voice low and deliberate. "Maybe it's because you weren't here, so I couldn't sleep well."

His eyes were full of sincerity, making my heart skip a beat.

When I didn't respond, his gaze shifted to the folder in my hand. He frowned. "What's this? Even if you love your work, you should rest a little. After everything that happened today, don't put too much pressure on yourself."

I patted my chest reassuringly. "Don't worry, I'm taking a break today. I didn't work."

Eric raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "Then what were you doing for so long? Weren't you working?"

Seeing the concern in his eyes, I hesitated momentarily, then told him everything that had happened tonight.

When I mentioned that I had brought the police and had Jeremiah arrested, Eric's expression turned approving. However, he knew that the Cornell family had plenty of ways to get Jeremiah out.

Our divorce trial was in just seven days, and if Jeremiah went into hiding again, everything would be delayed.

While he was detained, Jeremiah would have no personal freedom and could be called in at any time.

Eric thought for a while, then took out his phone and made a call. "Use whatever means necessary, but make sure Jeremiah can't get out for at least a week."

After hanging up, Eric raised an eyebrow. There was a rare youthful glint in his eyes. "What do you think?"noveldrama

I looked at him with gratitude and couldn't help but throw my arms around him. In an instant, I suddenly remembered he was still injured and quickly pulled away.

Eric's eyes flashed with a hint of regret, but his smile remained. "So, is this your thank you?"

I stared at him, frozen for a moment. Just as I was about to deny it, he nodded with satisfaction. "Good. This is the best thanks I've ever received."

His words sent a wave of weightlessness through me as if the ground beneath me had suddenly disappeared.

I quickly found an excuse to get Eric to sleep and settled onto the nearby couch. My mind raced through everything that had happened today. It all felt like a dream.

Even though I had mentally prepared myself many times, when it actually happened, I still felt nervous and

worried. If it weren't for Eric, I think I wouldn't have come out of it

unscathed.

Since this was a VIP ward, even the couch was spacious and soft enough. Before

I knew it, I fell asleep.

After waking up the next morning, I went out to buy breakfast for Eric. When I returned, the ward was filled with noise.

I hurriedly pushed open the door. Levi turned around in surprise and immediately came over upon seeing me. He looked me up and down, his face full of concern. "Jane, are you okay?"

The situation had unfolded so suddenly yesterday that I hadn't had the chance to

tell Levi, and I hadn't expected him to actually track me down.

I patted him on the shoulder, smiling. "Of course, I'm fine. How did you find me here?"

Levi glanced at Eric before

explaining, "I went to the company

this morning and saw that you

weren't there. I called, but you didn't pick up, so I went to your house to

look for you."

I checked my phone and realized he was right. I had rushed out so quickly I had forgotten to charge it, and it had already shut off.

He continued, "Your house was empty, so I thought of asking Eric. I knocked on

his door, but he wasn't home, so I called him."

With a pout, he added, "Why didn't you tell me about something so big? I could've at least helped a little."

Eric, lying on the bed, said in his usual cold tone, "She doesn't have to tell you everything. Sometimes, you need to learn to act on your own."
