Chapter 139 Keep Arguing and You Can All Get Out
Jack's light and casual words felt like a bombshell.
Dad immediately frowned. "Jack! What are you cursing your sister for?"
Jack didn't seem bothered at all and even wore a hint of confusion. "Am I not speaking the truth?"
He turned to me. "You said you were going to start a business, but this is what you came up with? You're embarrassing us. If I were you, I wouldn't even want to admit I'm part of the Brown family."
I barely reacted. He had said this kind of thing so many times before that it had become background noise. The fact that he still hadn't realized it only added to my frustration.
The crisp sound of a slap rang out, echoing throughout the living room. I could almost hear the reverberation in the air.
Jack stared, stunned. He had one hand pressed to his face as he looked at Dad. His eyes were wide with shock and, for the first time, a flicker of hurt flashed across. "Dad! Why do you always spoil her? She's married now, yet you're still doing everything for her. What's the reason?"
Dad's chest heaved with barely contained rage, and his face flushed red with fury. "Because she's your sister!"
His voice cracked with deep disappointment. "You used to be so good to her when you were younger. How did things end up like this? When she was little, you'd always step in and protect her when I scolded her even just a little. Now, you're treating her like an enemy."
It was as if something in my father's words struck a chord with Jack. His tightly held composure finally started to crack.
My mind drifted back to those childhood days. Back then, Jack was truly a caring older brother to me. He would look out for me and treat me with warmth. But all that changed the moment Elsa entered the picture.
Elsa's manipulations pulled Jack away from me bit by bit until he forgot what it meant to be my brother. Now, he was just Elsa's older brother.
As soon as Jack showed signs of being moved by my father's words, Elsa couldn't sit still anymore. She reached out and tugged at Jack's sleeve and said cautiously, "Jack, don't be angry with Jane. She definitely didn't mean to do¶t."
With those words, Jack seemed to snap back to his senses, his expression once again turning mocking.
"Didn't mean to?" He scoffed, giving me a cold, dismissive look as he examined me from head to toe.
"She's just a pampered young lady who's been spoiled from childhood. What does she understand? All she does is squander the family's money!"
I kept a calm smile on my face, unaffected by his words. "Not a penny of the
money for my studio comes from the family. How badly I'm losing money has nothing to do with you."noveldrama
Elsa hurried over with an anxious Over look on her face after sensing the situation. She reached out to grab my sleeve, but I immediately pulled back, stepping to the side. Even so, Elsa managed to stumble and fall onto
the couch.
Jack's face was immediately filled with concern, and he rushed to help her up. "Are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?"
Before she could answer, he stood up with fury in his eyes as he turned to me.
"What are you doing? Why are you being so malicious to Elsa? All you ever do is pull these petty tricks behind her back!"
My gaze flickered between him and Elsa, and for a moment, I couldn't tell if Jack was blind or if he truly didn't care about Elsa's character Even when Elsa deceived him, be seemed to accept it without question.
Just as I was about to speak, Dad interrupted sharply, "Jae has finally come home, and this is what you're doing? Arguing? If this nonsense keeps up, I swear, I'll kick you all out!"
Realizing Dad was truly angry, Jack fell silent. Elsa, wanting to say something, was silenced by him as well.
I had long since grown numb to their antics. I turned my attention back to my parents, linking arms with them once more.
"There's nothing more important than a good meal!"
