Chapter 1770
Just a minute later, James caught the flicker of doubt in Alec's eyes.
Finally, James spoke up, "Alright, everyone, rise and shine. Let your young master see for himself so he can rest easy."noveldrama
The folks who had been playing dead on the ground all got up. It was just a little scare tactic for the duo.
James, with a hint of coolness, said, "Did you honestly think your guys could just waltz onto the campus I locked down? If I hadn't let them in, they wouldn't even have caught a glimpse of the front gates."
Alec listened to James and suddenly saw the vast difference between them. Over the years, he thought he had come into his own, ready to handle things solo. Yet, next to James, he realized he was still just a rookie, relying on cheap tricks. This was the prowess of the former head honcho of Burke International?
"A man of his word stands firm. Remember what you promised," James said, his face unreadable as he walked away.
The mercenaries and Tredgold Corporation bodyguards on the field made their exit too. Back in the day, when the Burke family teamed up with the big four families against The Silent Shadows, their strategies were as tricky as they were varied. No wonder their young master couldn't outmaneuver them.
One of the Tredgold bodyguards stepped up to Alec and said, "Young master, we've got orders from the boss and the madam, so we've got to follow them. Mr. Burke just wants the best education for Miss Fiona, so there's nothing to worry about."
With James and Mr. Aldridge in the picture, Miss Fiona was as safe as can be.
Alec stayed quiet. Guess the saying's true-wise folks get wiser with age.
Tricia approached Fiona, "Miss Fiona, time to hit the track. Mr. Burke said you can only call it quits after you nail an 800-meter dash in three minutes and fifty seconds."
For most folks, this might seem like a walk in the park. But for Fiona, it was a nightmare. She was never a fan of running, and now she was in for a rough ride.
With Tricia keeping a watchful eye, Fiona couldn't slack off and had to start the 800-meter run from the line. Alec watched her struggle, lap after lap, deliberately slowing her pace. Yet, her muscle memory would betray her, speeding her the wrong times only for her to slow down again.

After three tries at the 800 meters, Alec jogged alongside Fiona, helping her find her rhythm. "Run with me, and don't outpace me."
After more than two kilometers, Fiona was running on fumes. But Tricia, usually
so kind, had no plans to let her stop. Fiona had no choice but to keep her head down and push through.
Alec stayed beside her, making sure Fiona's pace was steady and balanced. James had only said to hit the 800 meters in three minutes and fifty seconds; he didn't say anything about outside help.
This time, Fiona nailed it. Tricia checked the stopwatch and said, "Mr. Aldridge's car is parked at the school gate. For the next few days, it's just class and dorm, nowhere else, until Ms. Sophie and MoColby return."
Fiona plopped down on the grass, not wanting to move an inch. James' methods weren't the most exhausting, but they sure were the most relentless. No wonder her mom didn't pick him back in the day; she wouldn't have either!
