Reclaiming My Broken Luna 2

Chapter 409: Deception

Astrid's POV

The tension in the council chamber clung to my skin like a second layer of sweat.

Every time I closed my eyes, I could still see Alpha Cedric's smug expression from the last meeting, his words twisting the air with doubt and discontent.

Killian and I walked side by side through the dimly lit hall, his golden eyes sharp and focused.

Neither of us spoke as we headed toward the war room, our minds occupied by the same burning question: could Cedric truly be working with the rogue king?

The war room door creaked open, revealing Ryder standing at the center of the table, maps and documents scattered before him.

He looked up as we entered, his expression grim but composed.

"Alpha. Luna," Ryder greeted, bowing slightly.

"What did you find?" Killian asked, his voice steady but clipped.

Ryder straightened, his gaze meeting Killian's. "We've been discreetly monitoring Alpha Cedric's movements as you requested. There's nothing concrete yet, but... there's something off."

I frowned, stepping closer to the table. "What do you mean, 'off'?”

Ryder tapped a finger on the map spread before him. "Cedric's patrols have been irregular. His warriors are reporting gaps in his territory's defenses-places rogues could easily exploit. Yet, there's no indication he's bolstering those areas or even addressing the issue."

Killian's jaw tightened. "You think he's leaving those gaps intentionally?"

Ryder hesitated before nodding. "It's a possibility. More concerning, we intercepted a message sent from one of Cedric's scouts. The message was encrypted, but its destination wasn't one of the packs."

My heart sank. "Then where was it sent?"

Ryder met my gaze, his voice steady. "It was heading east-toward rogue territory."

The room seemed to shrink around me, the weight of the revelation pressing down on my chest.

I turned to Killian, whose golden eyes burned with restrained fury.

"If this is true..." I began, my voice faltering.

Killian finished for me, his voice cold and unyielding. "If it's true, then Cedric has been feeding the rogue king information all along."

We left Ryder in the war room with instructions to continue his surveillance.

As we walked through the halls, my mind raced with possibilities, each one darker than the last.

"Do you think it's him?" I asked softly, my voice barely above a whisper.

Killian didn't answer immediately, his gaze fixed ahead.

"I think we can't afford to trust him," he said finally. "Not until we have undeniable proof."

I nodded, the knot in my stomach tightening.

Cedric's behavior had always been abrasive, but if Ryder's findings were

accurate, it went far beyond mere arrogance.

As we turned a corner, a messenger appeared, his face pale and his breathing labored.

"Alpha Killian, Luna Astrid," he gasped, bowing quickly.

"What is it?" Killian demanded, his tone sharp.

"It's Alpha Cedric," the messenger said, his voice trembling. "He's left his territory. And he's heading east."

Killian's eyes narrowed, his jaw tightening. "Rogue territory."

"Yes, Alpha," the messenger confirmed.

The weight of the situation hit me like a blow. If Cedric was heading toward rogue territory, it could only mean one thing: he was going to meet the rogue king.

"We need to move," Killian said,

turning to me, his voice low but

resolute. "If Cedric is going to

rogue king, we can't let hims

without answers."

I nodded, my resolve hardening. "Let's go."

Hours later, we stood at the edge of Cedric's territory, the moon casting an eerie glow over the forest.

Killian had gathered a small, trusted group of warriors, their expressions tense but focused.

Ryder joined us, his steps silent as he approached.

"He crossed the border not long ago," he reported. "We tracked him heading east. If we move quickly, we can intercept him."

Killian nodded, his gaze sweeping over the group. "We move in silence. If Cedric is meeting with the rogue king, we need to catch him in the act."

The tension was palpable as we moved through the forest, each step deliberate and cautious.

My heart pounded in my chest, the weight of what we were about to do pressing heavily on my mind.

As we neared the border of rogue territory, the sound of voices reached my ears. Killian held up a hand, signaling for us to stop.

We crouched low, the shadows of the trees concealing us as we crept closer.

Through the dense foliage, I saw them: Cedric and a figure cloaked in darkness. The rogue king.

My breath hitched as I watched Cedric bow slightly, his voice carrying through the night.

"I've done as you asked. The gaps in my patrols have gone unnoticed, and the packs are growing weaker by the day."

The rogue king's voice was low, chilling in its calmness. "Good. Continue to sow doubt among the council. Divide them. Soon, they'll tear each other apart." Content Belongs to

Rage boiled within me, but I forced myself to stay still.

Killian held his hand up, signalling our troops to stay still, having the same thoughts as me.

This is our opportunity to find more information on the enemy. Even though we can catch Cedric right now, what matters more is catching the rogue kiny.

This is our chance to find more information on the rogue king while they have no idea that we are right behind them.

Killian's hand brushed against mine, a silent reminder to stay focused.

His golden eyes burned with fury, but his expression remained unreadable.

As the rogue king spoke again, his words sent a chill down my spine "When the time comes, Cedric, you'll have your reward. But for now keep playing your part. And remember..."

The rogue king stepped closer, his shadowy figure towering over Cedric. "No one

can know the truth about me. Not yet."

The cryptic words hung in the air as Cedric nodded, his expression tense.

Ryder leaned closer, his voice barely a whisper. "Look closer."

I squinted, my breath catching as I noticed movement in the shadows.

More rogues were hidden among the trees, their eyes glinting in the darkness.noveldrama

They were armed, their weapons glinting faintly in the moonlight.

"It's a trap," Ryder murmured.
