Ashley shook her head, refusing to listen. "I can't get him out of my mind, Cameron. Am I some sort of curse to him? In another life, he died because of me. This time around, it was my stubbornness that led them to his hideout. It's

because of me that he's ruined."

Tears streamed down her face.

Cameron spoke gently but firmly, "Ashley, I've known you since you were little. You've got a good heart, and I've always seen you as a sister. It hurts to see you putting yourself down like this. His fate is of his own making, not yours."

"You've driven yourself into depression over a guy who's not worth it. Why do this to yourself?"

Nathalie was taken aback.

Turns out, she and Ashley were in the same boat-her Nathan was gone, and Ashley's fiancé was behind bars.

She let out a heavy sigh.

Just then, the intercom buzzed, "Nathalie, please head to exam room six."

Cameron and Ashley spun around, surprised to see Nathalie standing right there. Their faces said it all.

Cameron asked softly, "Nathalie, what's up?"

Nathalie shot him a look that could kill, anger simmering just beneath the surface.

Nathan's death wasn't something Cameron could just brush off. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't be in this mess.

She couldn't stand Cameron.

"My business is none of your concern."

Cameron watched her enter the psychologist's office, feeling a weight settle over him.

Ashley leaned in, "The bond between Nathalie and Nathan is something we can't even begin to understand. Nathan's passing left a hole in her heart that's just... unimaginable, She doesn't let herself grieve, just buries it all in her work. I'm really worried. If she ever stops working, all that buried emotion might just break her. I'm not sure her body can take it."

Cameron looked at Ashley, stunned, "Kind of like you?"

Ashley glanced at the scars on her arm, shaking her head, "My pain is nothing compared to hers. Hers is hidden, but it runs deep."

Cameron felt an unexpected heaviness in his chest. Realizing how much he had hurt Nathalie was like a punch to the gut.

"At least she's seeing a doctor," he remarked.

"What can a doctor really do? Just wait and see. She's only hanging on because of Nathan's last wish. Once she fulfills it, she'll probably just collapse."

Cameron's tall frame shook as a sense of helplessness gripped him.

Suddenly, he made his way towards exam room six.

As he reached the door, he caught Lizzy's voice, "Doctor, my sister hasn't slept in

a month."

The doctor looked surprised, "Not a wink for a whole month?"

Lizzy nodded, "Yeah, she hasn't closed her eyes at all."

Nathalie rubbed her forehead-how did Lizzy know her so well?

The doctor glanced at Nathalie, "You seem to be holding up okay."

The doctor asked, "What goes through your mind when you try to sleep?"

Nathalie's eyes turned cold, "I think about making the ones I love happy and the ones I hate miserable."
