Chapter 626
The man let out a sigh of relief.
After a night of torrential rain, it was as if the bad weather had vanished without anyone noticing. The sky had cleared up beautifully, with the sun's warm rays revealing every nook and cranny that had been battered by the storm. Nathalie stood by the window, watching the water slowly retreat. The ground was a soggy mess, and puddles lingered in the low spots on the road, but everything felt refreshingly clean.
Feeling upbeat, Nathalie turned to the man, her voice bubbling with excitement, "Hey, I should head home. It's the weekend and Nathan's coming back today."
The man's face was as unreadable as a statue, his fingers fidgeting nervously with his trousers. "Alright. I'll have my assistant give you a lift," he offered.
Nathalie grabbed her bag, her eagerness barely contained. "No need, I can manage on my own," she said, and with that, she dashed off like a bird taking flight.
The man slowly removed his glasses, revealing eyes that were strikingly captivating. Yet within those deep, dark eyes, emotions swirled that were too complex to unravel.
Nathalie drove her little car, feeling a thrill as she sped up on her way home.noveldrama
When she pulled into the estate, Lizzy came out to greet her, though her eyes were marked with dark circles, a telltale sign of a sleepless night.
"Lizzy, didn't you get any rest last night?" Nathalie asked, concern lacing her voice.
Lizzy huffed in frustration. "Oh, you wouldn't believe it. Ever since Greta arrived, she's been acting as if she owns the place. Bossing people around, she even tossed the scones we made for breakfast onto the floor, saying they were too cheap for Mrs. Dawson."
The more Lizzy spoke, the angrier she became. "Honestly, can you believe her gall? You're way classier than she'll ever be, and if you can eat those scones, why can't she, a mere freeloader?"
Nathalie raised a hand to gently stop Lizzy's rant. She's not like us. She grew up pampered, surrounded by t luxury. Now, finding herself in
mid-life and having fallen from ne
grace, she's struggling to cope. Her vanity pushes her to assert herself by putting on a show."
"Don't let her get to you," Nathalie advised with a reassuring smile.
Lizzy felt a bit more at ease. Nathalie then eagerly asked, "Has he come back yet?"
As she asked, she continued moving toward the house, with Lizzy keeping pace beside her. "He called earlier," Lizzy explained. "Said he might be
back later than expected "content
Nathalie paused, a flicker of disappointment crossing her heart. "Well, since Nathan isn't home yet, I guess I'll go see what that haughty lady is up to." Lizzy grinned, "Go on, tell her off a bit."
Nathalie sighed, "She's had me under her thumb my whole life. I wouldn't even know where to begin."
Lizzy thought for a moment, nodding in agreement. "True, dealing with someone who treats dignity like dirt is tough."
Laughing and chatting, they made their way to the backyard.
Nathalie didn't rush inside. Instead, she lingered outside the garden wall, peering through the lacy window at the inner courtyard.
Miranda was at the stone table,
holding a bowl of freshly washed fruit. Meanwhile, Greta was lounging lazily, sprawled across two stone
benches. Miranda picked up a grape, peeled it carefully, and fed it to
Greta.
