Celeste was still chattering. "Charmaine, where are you?! Get in the group chat! I'm dying of laughter over here!"

Snapping out of her thoughts, Charmaine exited her chat with Emyr and opened the class group.

Now that the results were out, the once-silent chat had come back to life.

Scrolling through the messages, she noticed that eight of the top ten students in the grade were from their class.

"Where's Charmaine? Why hasn't she shown up yet? Don't tell me she did so badly that she's too embarrassed to say anything."

Out of the blue, Veronica steered the conversation toward Charmaine.

The group chat fell silent for a moment before she sent another message: "Leah effortlessly landed second place in the grade. That Cross Group internship spot is basically hers."

"No way! Leah got second? She's never ranked this high before!"

"Leah and Daniel were always at the library during finals week, studying together. They're basically the most inspiring couple on campus!"

"I heard Daniel is ranked first in his department too. Being around top students makes you better!"

"Ugh, so jealous. This is the power of love."

"Congrats, Leah!"

"If Leah got second, then who's first? Why hasn't anyone said anything yet?"

"Probably someone from the middle ranks who got lucky this time. They probably don't even know yet!"

The group chat buzzed with activity for a while before Leah finally showed up. As always, she put on a humble act, while quietly flaunting her relationship. "Thank you, everyone! I've made such great progress this time entirely thanks to Daniel's guidance. My classmates are all so talented, and I just happened to get lucky."

Leah's little clique immediately jumped in to hype her up. "Aww, this is so sweet! Daniel went all out to help you study. This is love!"

"Daniel has always doted on Leah. This is what a real relationship looks like. Unlike certain people who just flaunt their wealth, who knows how long that'll actually last?"

"Some people even had the nerve to go after someone else's boyfriend, and now karma's hit them. Can't even hold onto first place anymore. What a joke."

It was obvious who they were targeting.

Leah waited a while before finally stepping in, putting on her usual nice girl act. "It was all just a misunderstanding, guys. Let's not talk about it anymore."

"Ahh, I can't wait!" Celeste sent a meme of a fly rubbing its hands together, too excited to bother typing and switching straight to voice messages.

Celeste didn't bother hiding her glee, her laughter full of malicious delight. "At the grade meeting this afternoon, the old principal is personally drawing names for the internship spots. I can't wait to see their twisted, furious expressions when they hear the results!"

Charmaine raised an eyebrow. "So that's why you've been holding back? Waiting for this?"

"What else? If I weren't saving it for this afternoon's epic takedown, I would have shared your grades screenshot already."

Charmaine chuckled and gave her some credit. "Not bad, you've matured."

Celeste grinned. "Obviously! I mean, look who I'm best friends with now. Back then, I was just stuck with a bunch of fools!"

Charmaine's smile widened.

She had to admit-Celeste was getting more and more adorable.

Taking the opportunity to announce final exam results and the internship drawing list, the school hosted a large-scale parent-teacher meeting in the auditorium. The event was designed to make the selection process fair, transparent, and open to everyone.

Charmaine quickly tidied up and went out once the lunch break was over.
