My Hockey Alpha

Chapter 711

Chapter 0711

Nina

I watched the intense fight unfolding in front of me, my heart pounding the entire time.

Enzo and Luke collided again and again, teeth and claws and sparks flying. But my panic only mounted with each clash. In wolf form, Enzo clearly overpowered Luke's smaller frame.

I writhed against the silver ropes that were still binding my wrists. What if Enzo accidentally went too far in selling this deadly ruse? And besides, what 'plan' had he insinuated before? Was there even a plan?

Then, with one final savage lunge, Enzo's jaws finally clamped onto the back of Luke's vulnerable neck. Luke's body spasmed... then went horribly limp.

I released a ragged scream and shot up from my seat, only for the guards to forcefully shove me back down. No! Enzo couldn't have

But he flung Luke's body aside like a piece of meat and reared back, howling victory to the roaring spectators. When Enzo shifted back and met my horrified gaze, something unspoken passed between us.

There was no remorse in his eyes. Just intense purpose.

Had this all been part of their plan? I scarcely dared to hope for some sort of flicker of life as Luke's body was dragged away-but the way his head lolled at a sickening angle made me lose what little spark I had left.

Grief clenched my heart regardless. If Luke still lived somehow, we still faced an uncertain future under Mila's control.

I had to trust that Enzo knew what he was doing.

Once the crowd died down a bit, two guards hauled me back to my feet. Soon, we stood in front of Mila again in her private chambers, our ropes removed.

Enzo's entire body was tensed, ready to fight despite his lingering wounds. But I could only limply stand there, as if my limbs were made of the ropes that had been binding me. The thought of Luke, one of my closest companions, dead...

I couldn't bear it.

Mila toyed idly with a strand of her dark hair, her smile cold. "That was an entertaining battle," she purred. "You both play your roles so very well. Now... shall we conclude our business?"

Enzo moved forward urgently. "Yes. I did what you asked; I won the battle. Now free Nina, so she can return home with our child as you vowed."

Mila arched an elegant eyebrow. "Oh, dear me... it seems there's been a misunderstanding between us. I made no promise whatsoever to free your breeder bride."

"What?" Enzo hissed. I felt my shoulders tense, but I said nothing. A part of me had expected this.

Mila simply shrugged. "I only said I would consider it," she said, checking her nails nonchalantly. "I never promised to release her."

"you lying snake!" Enzo lunged for her, only to smash back against the wall as Mila casually raised one slender hand. She hadn't even glanced up from cleaning her nails. I cried out and ran to Enzo's side where he slumped, stunned.

"Temper, temper," Mila chided. "Consider this a rare courtesy on my part. I admire the conviction you dogs show toward one another, so I shall permit you two to remain here together." Her smile turned cruel. "The female can birth her litter and work as my servant. You may keep the memories of your marriage... for now."

Dread coiled in my gut upon hearing her words, but I couldn't let myself fall now. Instead, I helped Enzo stand on unsteady feet to face our tormentor again. There had to be a way out of this, I was sure of it. Enzo had said he had a plan.

"There has to be some other bargain we can strike," I said quietly, shakily meeting Mila's cold gaze. "I know you're reasonable, Mila."

"Am I not being reasonable already?" she asked. She gestured around her at the opulent chamber; the velvet drapes, the silk sheets, the high ceilings. "It should be an honor for you to live in my palace. You'll want for nothing; all of you. Even the baby."

Enzo and I glanced at each other before he spoke up. "Nina belongs at home, with our friends and family," he said. "This is no honor. I'll stay, do whatever you want"

My eyes widened. "No, Enzo," I began, but was quickly cut off with a wave of his hand.

"I'll do whatever you ask of me, Mila," he said solemnly. "Just let my wife go home. Don't force her to stay here."

Mila pretended to consider, then gave an exaggerated sigh. "Fine. I suppose I could be persuaded to let her eventually return to the mundane world... after her mongrel child comes of age. Say, sixteen years or so?" She laughed bitterly. "Then, she can leave. But Enzo and the child will stay. I can't let my rightful lineage go to waste."

My legs nearly buckled. Sixteen years? We would lose over a decade of our lives here, chained by Mila's cruelty. I would birth and raise our child in this snake pit. And then I would have to leave everything behind.

"No," I said, shaking my head vehemently. "I won't do it. I won't raise my child here for sixteen fucking years, just to let you take it all away. You have to let us go home now."

Suddenly, Enzo turned and pulled me close, his blistered hands framing my face with heartbreaking tenderness. "Nina, listen to me," he whispered. "If she lets you go someday... you have to accept. This is the only way." My vision swam with tears. "But your memory..." I choked out. "She plans to wipe your mind. You won't even know me anymore."

As I spoke, I felt my breath catch in my throat. The idea of Enzo not remembering me had been painful enough when Selena had done it to us; now that we were married, with a little one on the way, I couldn't even begin to fathom it.

This was worse than any torture imaginable.

"Oh, it's not so bad," Mila said coolly. "I can wipe your memory too, you know. I'm not a tyrant. Consider it a... mercy,"

Revulsion roiled through me at her words. How could anyone be so callous about shattering souls to further their own ends?

Before I could answer, Mila clapped her hands together. The doors swung open, and two guards came in.

"As a further show of good faith," she said, "I will allow you two one last night together before your memories are wiped and the deal is set in stone. Enjoy your luxurious amenities."

"Our luxurious"noveldrama

"The finest guest suite in my palace," Mila said as the guards gathered us and began dragging us away. Enzo and I looked at each other wildly, feeling helpless in the guards' grasps.

Silver was bound around our wrists again, keeping us from lashing out; although, not that we would have. After all, we were helpless here. And maybe our minds were beginning to shatter, too, as we realized that there was no escape from this hell.

As we were hauled away, Mila's twisted voice echoed down the hall after us. It bounced around the walls, like an icy whisper in a place where no living soul should exist.

"Do enjoy the room!"
