[Veera’s P.O.V.]
"Sandwich oh." Adam offered me a sandwich he was holding.
"Thank you" I said and just ate quietly still thinking about when would mama be able to get out of the
hospital.
"Don't worry, I will help with the hospital bills." He said and just continued eating.
"You haven't come home yet." I looked at the time on my phone.
It's midnight already. Mama is still here in the hospital for the passed 5days.
Her doctor told me that mama would first be given beta blockers to slow down her heartbeat for a faster
recovery. They also gave mama some fluids for the lungs to help the heart to recover. Doctors had
given a lot of needed nutrients and put alot of attached things onto her body. It is said that the
enlargement of mama's left ventricle is doubled. It was not normal at all. So it is said that it is quite
difficult to be neglected, that's why we are encouraged to make the recovery stage safe and less
dangerous. They also said that they used to tell her that she is really required to quit her job because it
was not good for her, especially she was also able to carry heavy loads on her jobs.
Adam and I have not been in school for a few days. I don't know, why Adam also sacrificed his
attendance and grades for us. You would really thought, on the way that He decides to stays with me in
the hospital, He is the real child of my mom.
Vita is also staying already with EunYeo for the passed 5 days. She's doing fine and Vita seems to be
great. EunYeo also delivers her to school. Every other day EunYeo brings notes and lessons for Adam
and I.
“They aren't looking for me at home. Besides, I can't leave you here alone. We don't know the
tendencies. You might jump off the rooftop. And went up ahead than your mom. Poor Vita she might be
alone. ” Staring, he said to me while chewing the bread properly.
“Heh! You talk like you're from nowhere in the universe! You are pure nonsense. Why would I do that?
What am I, crazy? ” I said to him with disbelief on what he had said.
Sometimes his jokes really didn't fit in the right situations.
“I am also worried about Tita Veena, so I stayed here and not to accompany you. Tita Veena is kind to
me --- unlike you, you are very ungrateful every time I help. ” He said as he reached me a bottle of
water.
“You know I don't know what to think of you. I think you like either mom or Vita. Gosh Adam! Yes you
are helping and always wanted to help others out. But don't overdo it, other people might misinterpret
you. ” I said while opening the bottled water that almost broke the lid due to my force.

I just stared at him because of what he was saying.
“You go home! You take care of Vita and get her from EunYeo. After all, you had bribed that little sister
of mine” I said without an expression and just put my extra tshirt on my face and leaned back in the
chair.
"Even if I want to, my parents might just confuse me as Pedophile or not so they might think I hid a
granddugahter from them." He ignorantly remarked.
I didn't responde to what he said.
"I will just bought fruit for Tita Veena. I will be right back." He said and stood up.
I just gave him a thumbs-up and closed my eyes again.

After Adam left to buy some fruits, I left my seat.
I want to go somewhere.
I took the elevator.
I just kept quiet while simply looking at the people who was with me inside the elevator.
There is a doctor, there is a staff member or maybe a nurse who I think has tools or food in the cart he
is carrying, There is a mother and child but the child looks sick, There is also a woman who is probably
the same age as me.
What are their possible reasons for being in the hospital? What kind of doctor is this with us in the
elevator? Is he operating? Diagnosing? Is he a saving doctor? Or is he one of the doctors who is good
but kills the patient?
The nurse that we are with? Why does he consider himself a servant and a caregiver for patients?
Didn't he want to be a doctor and expand what he could to help patients?
What are they? What is their purpose why they are here today? These patients? Why are they here?
What illnesses do they feel?
“Miss? Which floor are you on? ” Smiling, the woman who looked just about my age told me.
“Ahh. In what. Floor… In… ”I stammered ..
Where am I going? Why am I here?
“On the 4th floor. Just to visit someone. ” I said a little nervous.
“Ahh maybe you will visit your baby sibling. I will also go to that floor. Do you want to come join me? ”
She smiled at me.
"All right" I said sparingly and fell silent again.
What exactly is on the 4th floor?
Do I really want to be carried there by my feet?
W-what place is this in the hospital?
“Miss? What place i-is this? ” I shyly asked the woman I was with when the elevator closed and went
up again.
“Why? Aren't you going here? This is the Nursery ward. I will go to my baby. ” She said.
What?? She already had a baby?
“Yes. I already have a baby. I just gave birth 5days ago. I still can't get my baby out because his heart
is weak and he still needs to stay here in the hospital. ” She said because I was just looking at her
blankly.
"Come I will show him to you" She said and she let me follow where she was going.
“Do you see the baby in the third incubator on the left? That's my baby. ” She said with a smile.
“It is early for me to had a baby right? But honestly speaking? He was a blessing to me. He was the
only right thing that happened to me even though my life was very chaotic. ” She said with a smile.
“My parents are divorced. They already have their own families. I was their only child. They both cut
their connection with me. There were lots of work I did enter just to live on my own at a young age. It is
very difficult to survive when you are alone. ” Her tears are dripping as she tells the story but she is not
sad at all.
“I was working at a club last 6months. But when they found out I was pregnant, they fired me. One of
my customers got me pregnant. To be specific… my dad's eldest son. His son with his current wife… At
first I didn't want to get pregnant… but when my belly gradually grew and I felt his kicks and movement
inside my womb. I realized that there might be a reason why it was given to me. He was given to me so
that I could be with someone…. ” her tears flowed more often on her cheeks.
I looked at the baby he was pointing inside the incubator… it was a boy because there was a blue
sticker attached to the incubator.
“How are you? Your strength is impressive. ” I said to her and patted her gently on the shoulder.
She smiled at me in what I've said.
"You? Why are you in the hospital? I know you did not know where you were going earlier.., so I asked
you. ” Smiling she said.
I fell silent and stared at the floor…
“I am here because my mother had a heart attack, 5 days ago. We had an argument more and more as
we headed home. We stayed here in the hospital because her heart needed to return to its original
form and also her strength. She had Peripartum Cardiomyopathy. Enlargement of the heart after
childbirth. I think she got it after she gave birth to me and my sister.. She did not bother to consult a
doctor after giving birth. ” I told her a long and tearful story of what happened to mama.
“I blame myself for why I became mama's child. She still had to have that kind of pain. My sister was
also affected because she got pregnant again without knowing that she had such a disease. Even
though we are struggling, she still insists to served us something to eat at the dinner table. ” Crying, I
told her.
"Stop crying. Don't you know that for a mother, the most important person and thing are her children?
Every mother will do just to protect, nurture, care for and raise her child properly. Once a baby was
born, a mother was also born. So if it were not for you and your sister, she would not be able to find the
Happiness she is experiencing and feeling now. ” Smiling, she said.
Are we really like that for mom? Why is mama so selfless? Why does she even let herself get sick
when we are the most important to her? Didn't mama think that if she also took care of herself, she
would take better care of Vita and me?
My phone vibrated so I first apologized to the teenage mom I was talking to.
‘Veera? Where are you?’ Adam asked nervously.
‘Why? What happened?’ I said confused.
‘Aunt Veena....’ Adam just said.
‘What happened to mama? Wait, I'm back. Wait for me. ’ I said crying to Adam.
I quickly pressed the down button on the elevator as soon as I got on.
Please! Please! Please! Lord Please Don't take away the life you have given to Mama.
“V-Veera.” Adam said tearfully.
"What happened to mama ?!" I said with mixed as I talk to Adam.
But Adam did not answer.
I saw mama's doctor who was just going to come here, so I approached him immediately.
“Doc? My mother? How is my mom? What happened to my mother ?! ” I do not know what to do.
“I'm sorry but we have done everything. Beta Blockers and any fluids needed for her recovery are no
longer working. Her body just throws away the drugs we give her. Right now, Your mom is brain dead…
She has a chance to wake up again but only at 30%. Your mom is in LifeSupport. ” The doctor told me
directly.
I just fell to the floor.
What? Mom is Braindead? She is comatose and has less than 50% hope of waking up?
Not a word came out of my mouth except loud sobs and tears that kept flowing from my eyes.
"Veera." Adam hugged me.
"Let me go." I removed his hand and pushed him away.
“Leave me alone! Do not follow me. ” I shouted at him.
I ran to the elevator and pressed the button with H I know it's the rooftop.
I want to be alone.
"AHHHH!" I cried out loudly.
“AHHHH! WHAT DID MY FAMILY DID? WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY WITH US ?! WHY ARE YOU
PUNISHING US LIKE THIS ?! ” I shouted and angrily pointed at the sky.
“YOU GRANDMA?! IS IT TRUE THAT YOU CURSE US BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE PAPA?!
PLEASE IF YOU HEAR ME! LOLA! FOR OUR SAKE! DO NOT TORTURE MOM! ” I was crying.
I am mad! Yes! I'm very mad! To the World and to anyone else! I'm mad at myself! I hate mom! I hate
Adam! I hate the People at Vita's school! I hate Aling Maneng! I hate my teachers and I hate EunYeo! I
hate everyone around me!
Do they always think Veera Eugenio is strong?!
“DO YOU THINK I CAN'T GET TIRED AND WEAK?! IM VERY TIRED. I FEEL SO WEAK. I DON'T
KNOW WHERE ELSE I WILL GET STRENGTH !!!! THEN WILL YOU STILL TAKE THE PERSON IM
DEPENDING THE STRENGTH LEFT IN MY BODY AND SOUL ?! YOU HAVE NO MERCY!!!” I
shouted furiously and cried as I squatted on the rooftop fence.
"I'm feel so tired…" I said crying while hugging myself.
"Don't take mama from us anymore." I whispered softly in emptiness while crying.
“Veera. Hold on. ” I looked up at the person holding my head even though my tears were constantly
flowing.
"DIDN'T I SAY DON'T FOLLOW ME ?!" I yelled at him and shook his hand.
"..." he did not speak to me.
"Leave Adam I don't need you." Still crying I said while looking at him.
"My name is not Adam." He says.
"I am Aidan" he introduced.
"Stand up." He added and took both my hands then pulled me upright.
"Who are you? Why do you know me?" I said and wiped away my tears.
“My name is Aidan. You were shouting earlier. ” It says.
I did not silence him.
He is not Adam but they really look a like, the thing is he was wearing a dress that I can not figure out if
he is going to a costume party or interpretative dance.
“So You are the one, whom my sister was talking about. a lady with such energy within, that she was
even forced to show herself. You don't seem to have learned and there is no lesson in your personality.
” He said I do not understand.
“I didn't go to a mental hospital, did I? Mr. Aidan sorry to tell you but I do not talk to strangers and
people who seem to have loose the screw in the brain.” I said and was about to leave in front of him.
“You brought yourself so high that you can't go down. You set yourself that high, no wonder that's how
the world makes you suffer. ” He said.
“Did you once look at the paper that was put inside your pocket? The one Adam put ” He said.
How did he know that?
I dug into the pocket of my vest. The paper is still there. I opened it.
“Veera, you're too high. I can't reach you even though others said that I must be living in heaven
because of who I was but.. Veera. Your strength is over flowing… but because of your overflowing
strength you no longer notice your weaknesses that are gradually mixing with your energy. Veera, I
hope someone hears my prayer to show you that in all your problems… the problems you have are not
the ones who are difficult to solve… It is your smile that is difficult to find during the times you have a
problem. You are not alone Veera. Widen what you see. You will find people who you can lean on.” I let
go of the paper with Adam's letter because I was creep out in the fact that Aidan speak the letter to me.
I was even more stunned when that paper floated.
"Be thankful Veera because there is someone that was willing to pray for you, despite of your repulsion
in his presence." Said the slender Aidan who was in front of me.
All around him was shining.
“W-what are you really?? Ahhh ” I asked scared.
"I was opened, Veera. The questions that you already have in your heart and mind opened me up. And
the key is you and the letter you are holding now.” It says.
I was surprised because i was holding the letter again and it was broken into small pieces.
“W-what are you going to do to me? My mom and my sister still need me. ” I said scared and begging.
“Yes they need you. But yourself needed you more. ” He said and suddenly flick his finger.
Simultaneously with the flicking of those fingers was the gradual darkening of my vision and the
rotation of my surroundings.
"M-mama… V-Vi ... ta." Last words came out of my mouth before a strange light flash through my eyes
