Divorce Long 224
Chapter 224
Maggie and Franklin’s marriage had been something Grandfather Yves had observed for the first few years. Franklin had never liked Maggie from the beginning. Now, he had someone else he liked.
Franklin had good relationships with Wilson’s matriarch, Grandfather Yves, and other elders, but he was never one to be influenced by them.
So, no matter how much Grandfather Yves or the matriarch disapproved of Franklin’s relationship with Julia, they couldn’t do much about it, nor could they persuade him.
Even if Grandfather Yves was angry, all he could do was stew in his own frustration.
Thinking of this, Grandfather Yves lightly patted Maggie’s hand. “These years… sigh.”
Maggie understood that he was expressing his sympathy for her.
She smiled and said, “I’ve let go of it all. I’ve started my new life, and I’m doing well. Grandfather Yves, you don’t need to worry about me.”
Grandfather Yves smiled back. “That’s good.”
After dinner, when Maggie was sending Grandfather Yves back to the Yves family’s old residence, Franklin and Julia had already left.
Perhaps Franklin hadn’t bothered to check on Isabella after leaving the Yves family’s old residence, because just as Maggie was about to leave, Isabella called her.
Maggie glanced at the phone but didn’t answer.
Later that evening, when Maggie went back to the Miller family’s house for dinner, she found an
invitation card on the coffee table. noveldrama
Opening it, she saw that it was an invitation to the matriarch of Wilson family’s seventy–fifth birthday
party.
There was still some time before the matriarch’s birthday arrived, but there had been a fortune–teller who said that the matriarch should not host a grand birthday celebration for the past ten years
, or it would bring a fatal calamity. The matriarch believed this, so for the past ten years, her birthdays had been simple family affairs with
no grand celebrations.
Now, the ten–year period was over, and Felix and Franklin had already discussed that this year, they would throw a grand birthday party for the matriarch.
Perhaps because of this, even though the birthday party was still some time away, they had already
finalized the details.
Miller’s grandmother came out of the room and saw the invitation card in Maggie’s hand. She said, “It was just delivered.”
Maggie replied with a simple “Mm.”
Mrs. Miller added, “This is the first time she’s hosting a big birthday celebration in ten years. Logically, we
should attend, but…”
But considering the situation between Maggie and Franklin, it really didn’t seem appropriate for them to
attend.
Maggie understood her grandmother’s feelings. She felt the same way.
Besides, since Franklin had already brought Julia to the old residence, there was a chance he would bring Julia along to the birthday celebration. This matter aside…
After dinner at the Miller family’s house, Maggie returned to her own place.
On Monday morning, she went to work at Cole as usual.
Time flew by while she was working, and before she knew it, it was Thursday afternoon.
While she was in a meeting, Isabella called again.
Maggie saw the incoming call and, without thinking, immediately hung up.
Just after hanging up, Isabella called again.
Maggie frowned but still didn’t pick up.
This time, Isabella didn’t call again.
Maggie resumed her meeting.
A few minutes later, her phone
rang again. This time, it was Franklin.
Maggie pursed her lips and turned off her phone.
It wasn’t until an hour later when the meeting was over that she turned her phone back on.
As soon as she opened it, she saw a message from Franklin.
[Isabella fell down the stairs at school and was sent to the hospital.]
Maggie froze for a moment, her mind going blank.
She grabbed her phone and bag and rushed out of the company, heading straight to the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, she called Franklin to ask where he was.
Franklin quickly answered and gave her the specific room number.
When Maggie reached the VIP floor, she immediately pushed the door open.
As soon as she entered, she saw Franklin sitting in the room and Isabella lying on the bed.
Isabella’s face was pale, with bandages wrapped around her head. She looked up at Maggie with a weak
smile, “Mom…”
Maggie quickly asked, “What happened? What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor said it’s a concussion, but it’s not too severe,” Franklin answered.
Maggie sighed in relief. “That’s good.”
At that moment, Franklin asked, “Have you eaten?”
Maggie had been in meetings all day, and now it was already past seven, so she hadn’t eaten anything.
She shook her head.
Franklin didn’t say anything but took out his phone and ordered a meal to be delivered.
It had been more than half a month since Isabella had seen Maggie, and now she was listless, with little energy. She lay quietly in Maggie’s arms, not saying anything.
Maggie gently embraced her and asked, “If you’re not feeling well, want to sleep for a while?”

Isabella murmured, “Mm…”
She held Maggie’s hand, closed her eyes, and lay down, but her brows remained furrowed. It wasn’t until half an hour later that she fell asleep.
At that point, the food that Franklin ordered arrived.
He looked at Maggie and said, “Eat something first.”
Maggie didn’t accept. “I’ll order my own food.”
Franklin glanced at her but didn’t insist.
Maggie took out her phone and ordered another meal.
While Isabella slept, Maggie quietly sat by her side.
Franklin seemed to have something to attend to. He stepped outside to make a call and didn’t return until a long time later. He sat down across from Maggie.
It seemed like he wanted to talk to her, and when she noticed, she lowered her head and focused on her
phone.
She clearly didn’t want to talk to him, so Franklin smiled and didn’t say anything.
They each quietly went about their own business in the room.
As the night deepened and Isabella didn’t wake up, Franklin finally spoke again. “I’ll stay here tonight. You go home and get some rest.”
Maggie turned to look at Isabella but didn’t speak or leave.
Franklin continued, “Even if you’re angry, you should answer her calls more frequently from now on, even if not every single one. Don’t let it happen that she’s in danger and you didn’t pick up her call in time. You might regret it for the rest of your life.”
Maggie froze.
He knew she often deliberately ignored Isabella’s calls?
What do you think?
