A Favor 21
I withdrew my gaze from the apartment and looked directly at her, recalling the bedding she had picked out yesterday. "Has Logan slept here?"
Selene froze for a moment, pursing her lips tightly.noveldrama
"Let me be more direct," I said with a smile that didn't reach my eyes. "Have you two slept together?"
"Elaine, how can you say something like that?" Selene's pale face
contorted, though it was obvious she was trying to maintain an air of superiority.
You haven't?" I glanced at her belly pointedly. "Oh, right. I suppose now's not the best time for that."
Her face turned livid at my words.
Honestly, the act she was putting on was pathetic. If she wanted to be the third party, she should at least do it with confidence-especially since Logan had already handed her a house that was supposed to be mine. She should have been bold, assertive. Instead, she acted like she was innocent even as she did something so shameless. It was as if she wanted to play both the victim and the villain in the same breath.
"Elaine, Logan won't like you if you act like this," Selene said, her tone
dripping with mock concern.
The audacity.
I couldn't help but chuckle. I'd have to be out of my mind to still want his affection after everything.
"Keep his affection for yourself," I retorted flatly.
Selene's eyes instantly filled with tears of grievance, and I knew I'd made the right decision to ask Victor to stay. Without him as a witness, her tears would've made any explanation on my part difficult.
"Elaine, what do you mean by that? Aren't you getting married today?" she

asked, though the gleam of hope in her eyes betrayed her true feelings.
Her ambition was written all over her face.
Suddenly, I didn't feel like letting her have her way. So, I deliberately replied, "Yes, we are. We'll be getting married very soon. Logan even consulted a fortune-teller."
Selene's expression shifted, her excitement faltering.
"The best time for us to get married is at exactly 10:58 a.m.," I continued, my voice light, almost cheerful. "He said that if we marry at that time, we'll have a long and happy life together-blessed with many children and grandchildren." The glimmer in her eyes shattered into pieces before my eyes.
Seeing her hopes crumble brought me a strange sense of satisfaction, so I
decided to twist the knife a little more. "After we're married, we'll be sure to
invite you to our celebration. Don't forget to bring a gift, Mrs. Harlow."
Selene staggered slightly, looking as though she might fall.
Thinking of her previous over-the-top antics, I added coolly, "Logan isn't here to catch you if you fall."
Her lips trembled, but she didn't say a word. She only bit her lip, her expression carefully crafted to evoke protective instincts in any man who
saw her.
Perhaps that's how she had won Logan over in the first place.
But it no longer mattered to me. As of today, Logan was just another man in the world-not someone I was holding onto.
Strangely, I didn't feel overwhelmingly sad after witnessing this scene.
The saying that "hearts don't grow cold in a day" rang true. After Logan had hurt me time and time again, today's events didn't wound me as deeply as they might have in the past. "Let's go, Mr. Langston," I said, turning to Victor and making my way to the ****

door.
"Ms. Hart, this might be a misunderstanding. I should at least inform Mr. Mercer and see what he has to say," Victor said, hurrying after me.
I stopped walking and turned to him. "If it were you, would you believe his explanation?"
My rhetorical question left him silent.
I continued, "Don't tell Logan about today."
With that, I walked away, leaving him standing there without another word.
What do you think?
