Thinking back to what she had said earlier while choosing bed linens, it seemed she implicitly viewed Logan as her boyfriend.

"Is this for Logan?" I asked, glancing at the bed linens she had picked out. It was the same blue-gray color Logan used to like. But things had changed- under my influence, he now preferred brighter colors. Selene bit her lip, hesitated for a few seconds, and then shook her head.

"No, please don't misunderstand. I'm buying this for my brother."

I couldn't be bothered with her games, so I asked directly, "Is Logan going to live with you now?"

stretch to think he might want to keep an eye on her at all hours.

"Elaine, how can you say that?" Selene looked visibly agitated.

"You're buying him bedding, Selene. How else am I supposed to interpret that?" I mocked.

"Elaine, you're too jealous. Logan won't like this side of you," Selene

retorted, but her words only made me laugh.

"What's so funny?" she asked, her innocent yet wary eyes locked on me.

I brushed a stray hair away from my face. "Even if Logan likes me, he can't resist other people's temptations."

"Elaine, why are you so harsh with your words?" Selene snapped, her face turning red.

"Isn't it true?" I countered. "Ms. Vaughn, yesterday you came to the company pretending to explain things to me, but your real intention was to see Logan, wasn't it?"

I had realized this in the early hours of the morning, even though I had slept soundly through the night. Selene had shown up at the company to cause a scene, deliberately getting hit by a car so Logan would rush to her side in front of everyone. It was a calculated plan. Selene widened her eyes dramatically and shook her head. "How can you think of me like that?"

"Then explain why Logan showed up at the café yesterday," I pressed.

For a moment, Selene was silent, a flicker of embarrassment flashing in her eyes at being caught.

"Selene, if you want to be with Logan, do it on your own merits. Don't step on me to boost yourself up. Also..." I paused. "Logan and I have already broken up."

"What?" Selene looked genuinely surprised.noveldrama

I added, "Oh, by the way, I paid for the foie gras that night. If we're going Dutch, you owe me a third. Or, if you want to cover Logan' share too, that works," I said, extending my phone toward her.

Selene's expression soured. "I don't have money on my phone," she said.

I found that hard to believe-and somewhat unexpected.

"Elaine, ever since Liam's accident, no one's been giving me money. That's why I'm using Logan' card," Selene explained pitifully.

Whether her excuse was true or not, pressing her for money would only make me look petty.

"Well, forget it then," I said, taking my phone back.

"Let's do this instead!" Selene stopped me. "I'll follow you on Instagram and transfer the money later."

"It's fine."

"Please, I insist," she said, pulling out her phone and opening the QR

Seeing her persistence, I relented and opened my phone for her to scan As she sent me a follow request, I couldn't help but comment "Selene, are you adding me on Instagram just so you can post things to upset me?" Selene's gaze flickered briefly before dimming. "Elaine, don't think I'm such a malicious person."

"Let's hope you don't give me a reason to prove that assumption wrong."I warned, putting away my phone and walking off.
