Although things between Logan and me had completely fallen apart, I was still his assistant, so I had no choice but to continue working as usual. But now, my work involved wrapping things up and preparing to hand over my responsibilities.
I didn't resign immediately because I wanted to finish the projects I was working on, especially the amusement park project. This project had been my suggestion. It meant a lot to me.
Before my parents passed away, I had been a happy little girl. My parents doted on me and used to take me to amusement parks across the country every year. Dad had even said that one day, he would build an amusement park just for me. But unfortunately, they died in a car accident, leaving me an orphan.
A year ago, Logan acquired a new plot of land. During a discussion about what to do with it, I suggested building an amusement park. To my surprise, he agreed and entrusted me with the entire project. For that, I had been grateful to him. He had given me the opportunity to fulfill Dad's dream.
I had even imagined that on the day the amusement park was completed, Logan and I would ride the Ferris wheel together. I would look up at the sky and tell my parents not to worry about me anymore-that I was doing well, that I was loved and cared for. But now, it seemed that this wish of mine would never come true.
Around noon, while I was organizing my work, Maya scurried over and asked me in a conspiratorial tone, "Elaine, did you get your period last night?"
I glanced at her. "Am I not allowed to?"
"That's not what I mean." Maya shook her head vigorously. "I was just wondering why Mr. Mercer's mood is so awful today. He seems really frustrated." 09:19

I froze for a moment before realoraing what she was suggesting.
Then, I tapped her lightly on the head with my pen. "It's work hours, Focus on your tasks and stop daydreaming,"
Maya giggled as she handed me the report we had reviewed together yesterday. "It's not just me. Everyone's noticed. No one's come out of Mr. Mercer's office smiling today. Everyone's terrified of him."
I suddenly remembered how Logan had angrily thrown the roses away this morning, I wondered if his bad mood today was because I hadn't let him placate me like usual-or because I'd suggested breaking up, "Elaine, did you have a fight with Mr. Mercer?" Maya couldn't help but gossip.
I snapped back to reality and warned her, "Get back to work, or you'll be the next one crying."
After sending Maya away, I sat quietly for a moment before returning to my tasks. I reviewed and edited Maya's report and sent it to Logan.
He didn't reply, and I didn't press him.
At three in the afternoon, I was heading to the break room to get some
water when I ran into Logan. His expression was exactly as stormy as Maya had described, and it became even darker when he saw me.
Still, I greeted him. "Mr. Mercer, please review the report I sent. If it's fine, I'll go ahead and update our partners."
But he ignored me completely, walking past as if I didn't exist.
I didn't dwell on it. After returning to my office, my phone rang-it was a call from an unfamiliar number.
"Hello?"
"Elaine, it's me." Selene's voice came through the line.
I wondered what she wanted now. Before I could ask, she said, "I'm at the
café downstairs from your office. Can we meet?"

Didn't we see each other just last night?
"I'm at work right now. If you have something to say, just say it over the phone," I replied curtly, refusing her request,
"In that case, I'll wait until you're done with work."
I had underestimated her persistence, Clearly, this was her way of forcing a meeting, but I wasn't about to let her have her way,
"Fine. Keep waiting, then."
True to my word, I carried on with my tasks. After work, once everyone else had left, I went to the cafe. To my surprise, Belene was really still there,
As I approached, I heard familiar footsteps behind me. A moment later, I saw Logan stride past me toward Selene,
"Logan!" Selene's face lit up with excitement, though she also seemed a little flustered,
"What are you doing here?" Logan' expression remained sour.
Since I had already walked over, I couldn't just turn and leave. "She's here to see me."
Logan' expression grew even colder.
Sensing the tension, Selene quickly explained, "Logan, don'tnoveldrama
misunderstand. I came to explain to Elaine about what happened
yesterday, I don't want there to be any misunderstandings between you two because of me."
I couldn't help but smirk at that.
Selene was certainly cunning. Yesterday, she had deliberately ruined my evening with Logan, and today, she was pretending to be the peacemaker.
